COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is the animated feature based on the rhythm game HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE! At the time Rotten Tomatoes was checked on October 8, 2026, it showed a 96% Tomatometer from eight critic reviews. That is a critics’ score—not an audience percentage—and the rating and review count can change.
Which Hatsune Miku movie is this?
COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is a P.A.WORKS animated feature built around the world of the HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE! rhythm game. GKIDS called it “The First Theatrical Film to Feature the Iconic Character Hatsune Miku” in its February 13, 2025 announcement. That first-film description is the distributor’s characterization.
The story follows high-school musician Ichika, who encounters a version of Miku unable to reach listeners through her singing. The two look for a way for Miku to connect with people through music. The film draws on the game’s alternate-world SEKAI premise and its virtual singers, so it is framed as a story within the game’s setting rather than simply a concert film. GKIDS’ acquisition announcement and Rotten Tomatoes’ film page provide the synopsis and context.
When did it play in U.S. theaters?
The sources describe three related but distinct dates, not one universal opening day. GKIDS announced a North American theatrical release beginning April 11, 2025. Its later ticket announcement promoted a limited U.S. event running April 17–20, 2025. Rotten Tomatoes lists April 18, 2025, as the film’s limited U.S. theater date. Each date reflects the wording of its source; none should be treated as proof that every U.S. theater opened the film on the same day.

GKIDS also reported that the film opened in Japan on January 17, 2025, and ranked number two at the Japanese box office, earning over 570 million yen. That figure comes from the distributor’s acquisition announcement and was not independently verified against an original Japanese box-office report. GKIDS’ announcement, ticket announcement, and Rotten Tomatoes’ listing use the date descriptions above.
What does the Rotten Tomatoes score mean?
Rotten Tomatoes displayed a 96% Tomatometer based on eight critic reviews when checked on October 8, 2026. The page also showed 500+ verified audience ratings, but did not show a numeric Popcornmeter percentage in the captured listing. The 96% therefore refers to critics, not audience approval; it is a dated snapshot rather than a permanent score. Check the film’s Rotten Tomatoes page for its current rating and review counts.
