Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist is an eight-episode Peacock crime drama inspired by an armed robbery after Muhammad Ali’s October 1970 comeback fight in Atlanta. It is based on a true-crime podcast and a real event, but it is a dramatization—not a documentary or a scene-by-scene account of verified history. Peacock lists the series as available exclusively on its service; access may vary by region.
Where to watch Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist
Peacock lists the series as exclusively available on its streaming service. It premiered on September 5, 2024, and Peacock describes it as a one-season, TV-MA drama with eight episodes. Availability can depend on territory, so check Peacock’s current listing in your region.
The series is also based on the 2020 iHeart true-crime podcast Fight Night. The connection is useful if you want to explore the story in another format, but current podcast listening destinations are not established here.
How true is the story?
The historical starting point is real: Muhammad Ali fought Jerry Quarry in Atlanta in October 1970, and an armed robbery took place at a gathering after the fight. The Los Angeles Times reported that the real robbery involved more than $1 million in cash and jewels.

That documented premise should be kept separate from the television plot. Peacock’s synopsis describes Chicken Man as a suspected mastermind trying to clear his name and Detective J.D. Hudson as one of the first Black detectives in Atlanta’s desegregated police force. Those are the program’s character descriptions, not independent proof that every depicted role, relationship, or plot turn happened as shown. The Los Angeles Times explicitly characterized principal roles as “not-exactly-real-life roles.”
In other words, the show dramatizes the people and events around a real crime. Treat its dialogue, investigations, and character arcs as television storytelling unless corroborated by separate historical reporting.

What the series is like
The ensemble includes Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Taraji P. Henson, and Terrence Howard. Coverage by the Los Angeles Times describes the series as drawing on 1970s cinema, including blaxploitation films such as Shaft and Superfly. It also notes an old-school R&B score and split-screen sequences that show action from multiple angles. Those are elements of the show’s style, rather than claims about the historical event.
The Rotten Tomatoes listing’s critics consensus praises the series’ entertainment value and Hart’s dramatic range. That is an attributed snapshot of critical reception, not evidence of unanimous praise or a measure of every viewer’s response.

Should documentary viewers watch it?
It may appeal if you want a stylized crime drama rooted in a consequential Atlanta event, a large cast, and a period setting. If your priority is a factual reconstruction, keep in mind that this is scripted television and that central roles are not exact reproductions of real life. The source podcast is a separate way to approach the story as true-crime audio, although its current listening outlets are not confirmed here.

Georgia Public Broadcasting’s August 2024 coverage also placed the series’ promotion in Atlanta, where local businesses and locations were part of a one-time throwback campaign. The campaign’s advertised prices were temporary, not current offers.
