But that does not settle where he will live long term. The November 2025 suggestion that he might stay in the United States was speculation attributed to unnamed sources, not an announcement from Irwin.
Where the claim that Irwin might stay in LA came from
PerthNow raised the concern on 21 November 2025, after Irwin’s popularity in the United States grew through Dancing with the Stars. The story pointed to his time in Los Angeles and the attention surrounding him, but attributed the family alarm to unnamed sources. It did not quote Irwin saying he planned to leave Australia, and it did not independently establish his family’s reported reaction.
What Irwin said about Los Angeles and being home
In a later interview with The West Australian, Irwin described his three months in Los Angeles as a positive experience while making clear that city life was not his preference: “Being in LA for the last three months has been wonderful, but I am not a city kid. I live out in the bush and have grown up there, so it’s good to be back where there’s a bit of greenery.” The same report said he continued wildlife and conservation work at Australia Zoo when home, while weighing possible projects alongside that work.
What happened after his DWTS win
Realtor.com reported that Irwin returned to Australia after winning Dancing with the Stars, then travelled to South Africa to film I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! That sequence points to travel for work rather than proving a permanent move in either direction.

His later DWTS work was filmed in Australia
In July 2026, ABC News reported that Irwin was hosting the spin-off Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, which follows 12 emerging ballroom dancers. Irwin said, “We actually filmed ‘The Next Pro’ right down the road from Australia Zoo.” ABC announced a premiere on ABC and next-day streaming on Hulu; availability can vary by region and may have changed since the announcement.
In a July 2026 interview with TV Insider, Irwin discussed bringing the cast and crew to his home country to film and said that if the show had another season, “I’m right in there.” That indicates interest in continuing DWTS-related work, but the production’s Australian location does not establish where he will be based for future projects.

What his Australia Zoo connection tells us—and what it does not
In a July 2026 interview with Condé Nast Traveler, Irwin spoke about his connection to the Sunshine Coast and the zoo: “When I’m home, I just feel like I’m reconnected to what is most important to me. I’m connected with my purpose, which is really to continue this amazing family business, to continue a legacy of conservation.” His comments describe the importance of home and conservation to him; they are not a statement that he will live only in Australia or give up international work.

He did return after his DWTS win, and later reported work brought him back to Australia for filming near Australia Zoo. The available reporting does not establish a permanent future residence or a fixed division of work between Australia and the United States. The original fear of an imminent departure rested on unnamed-source speculation, not a confirmed plan from Irwin.
