He was 56. Initial coverage reported that he was 53, but AP later issued an explicit correction stating that his age was 56, not 53. The Los Angeles Times also reported the corrected age after his representatives’ team reviewed the information.

Who was Fatman Scoop?
Born Isaac Freeman III, Fatman Scoop was a Harlem-born rapper and hype man known for his booming delivery and club-ready recordings. His breakthrough recording, “Be Faithful,” was first released in 1999; a 2003 re-release reached No. 1 on the singles charts in the United Kingdom and Ireland, according to AP.
