Russell Brand’s June 17, 2013 appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe drew attention after he challenged the panel for speaking about him while he was sitting there. The clip went viral and attracted supportive reactions, but the available coverage does not show that every viewer—or even a measured majority—took his side.

That reporting supports a clash over interview manners and preparation. It does not establish what the panelists intended, and without a verified transcript or footage here, the conversation should not be reconstructed through invented dialogue.
Why did the interview attract so much attention?
Coverage shortly after the appearance portrayed the Morning Joe team as seemingly unprepared and described Brand as skewering the hosts (HuffPost). Those are contemporary characterizations of the exchange, not neutral measurements of how viewers felt.

Brand himself wrote on June 28 that he was surprised the clip had gone viral. In his retrospective, he also reflected on the program’s informal atmosphere (The Guardian). His account helps explain why the moment stood out to him, but it remains his perspective.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Did the interview get everyone on Brand’s side?
There is evidence of attention and public reaction, not universal agreement. UPI reported that Brzezinski responded to the reaction on June 21 (UPI). That establishes a response to the episode’s reception; it does not quantify how many people supported Brand or show that viewers reached a consensus.

A 2024 The Things headline later framed the interview as winning fans over, but that headline is a description of the article’s premise, not a poll or representative measure of audience opinion (IMDb listing). “Everyone on his side” works as a punchy headline, not as a proven account of what all viewers thought.
