In a 2016 interview, Diaz recalled knowing Richie and Joel before she met Benji. She said Joel asked whether his brother could come over to a barbecue at Diaz’s home: “Joel said, ‘Hey, can my brother come over?’” ABC News reported Diaz’s recollection.
