Ryan Reynolds is a controlling co-owner of Wrexham AFC alongside Rob Mac, formerly known as Rob McElhenney. They took over the club in 2021, and Wrexham went on to earn three successive promotions, reaching the EFL Championship after the 2024/25 season. Apollo Sports Capital joined as a minority investor in December 2025; Reynolds is not Wrexham’s sole owner.
Who owns Wrexham AFC?
Companies House lists Ryan Rodney Reynolds and Rob Mac as active persons with significant control of Wrexham AFC Limited. Both are recorded in the register’s top disclosure band for shares and voting rights and have the right to appoint or remove directors. Reynolds’s notification date is 9 February 2021. Companies House’s control register uses a threshold category; it does not establish that each man individually owns 75% or more, nor does it disclose their exact respective stakes.
On 8 December 2025, Apollo Global Management announced that Apollo Sports Capital had become a minority investor in Wrexham AFC. Reynolds and Mac continued to appear in the top statutory control band in the Companies House entries reviewed. The exact ownership percentages should not be inferred from those records.
How did Wrexham rise through the leagues?
Wrexham’s recent sporting story under the new ownership is a run of three successive promotions. The club reached the EFL Championship after the 2024/25 season, a milestone described in BBC Sport’s account of the five-year ownership period and in Apollo’s investment announcement.

The promotions explain the sharp change in the club’s league status since the takeover; they do not establish its position in a later season. No dated 2026/27 league table is established here, so claims about Wrexham’s current ranking, playoff prospects or further promotion require a current official table.
What does Ryan Reynolds do at Wrexham?
Reynolds is an owner and a prominent public representative of the club, but that does not mean he personally directs every football decision. BBC Sport reported that Reynolds and Mac said they do not make those decisions. That attributed position should not be stretched into a claim that the owners have no influence over investment, recruitment or the club’s wider direction.

Welcome to Wrexham is a documentary series following the club and its owners. BBC and Associated Press coverage have connected the series and the owners’ celebrity profiles with Wrexham’s increased international visibility. For viewers, the programme offers a produced, behind-the-scenes narrative; it is not a substitute for company filings when establishing legal control or for independent reporting when assessing the club’s wider story.

What the records do—and do not—establish
- Ownership: Companies House identifies Reynolds and Mac as persons with significant control, but its threshold bands do not reveal their exact individual stakes.
- Sporting record: BBC Sport and Apollo report three consecutive promotions, culminating in Wrexham reaching the Championship after 2024/25.
- New investment: Apollo Sports Capital announced a minority investment in December 2025; the announcement does not make Reynolds the sole owner.
- Current season: Historic promotions do not show a live league position. Use a dated official table for that question.
- Documentary perspective: The series provides a narrative account, while official filings and independent reporting serve different purposes.
