It brought a native PS5 version, adjustable graphics and frame-rate options, and fixes—not a forthcoming April release. If you already own the PS4 game, Bethesda documents a no-extra-cost upgrade path, with different steps for digital and disc owners.
What the PS5 update includes
Bethesda’s April 2024 update added native applications for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Performance and Quality modes, stability improvements, and fixes. It also added nine free Creation Club items, including Enclave Remnants, the Makeshift Weapon Pack, and Halloween Workshop. Enclave Remnants includes the “Echoes of the Past” quest. The update also added an Installed Content menu.

Bethesda’s launch notes describe the following targets. They are publisher-stated targets, not independent measurements of every scene or setup.

How to choose frame rate and visual priority
A later update expanded the settings. Bethesda’s May 13, 2024 Update 2 lets players select a 30, 40, or 60 FPS target and prioritize either Visuals or Performance while the game attempts to maintain that target. Selecting 40 requires a 120 Hz-capable display. Bethesda recommends the default settings. In either priority mode, internal resolution may adjust dynamically when scenes or action become more demanding.
In Bethesda’s words, “We highly recommend you run with the default settings but now you can change your options to better fit your playstyle and display.” The PS5 version identified in those notes is 1.10.985. See Bethesda’s Update 2 notes.
- Choose a 40 FPS target only if your display supports 120 Hz.
- Use the frame-rate target and Visuals or Performance priority to suit your display and preference; neither setting guarantees a fixed resolution in every demanding scene.
How to claim the PS5 version if you own Fallout 4 on PS4
Bethesda documents a free PS5 upgrade for existing PS4 owners. The route depends on whether your copy is digital or on disc.
PS4 disc copy
- Insert the Fallout 4 PS4 disc into a PS5 with a disc drive.
- Open the game hub and select the free PS5 upgrade, then download the PS5 version.
- Keep the disc inserted whenever you download or play the PS5 version; it serves as the ownership check.
A disc-free PS5 cannot use the disc-based upgrade route. Bethesda’s instructions are on its Fallout 4 upgrade support page.

PS4 digital copy
- Open Fallout 4’s game hub and use the overflow menu to select “Standard Edition – PS5”; alternatively, find the PS5 tile in the PlayStation Store.
- Download the PS5 version.
- If you own add-on content, download the PS5 versions of that DLC from the game hub as well.

What later updates changed
The PS5 release was not the end of the update history. Bethesda’s patch-note page lists a May 27, 2026 Creations storage expansion that brought PS5 storage to approximately 15 GB. Bethesda says previously installed Creations were preserved on PS5, so players did not need to take extra steps. The same announcement lists Xbox Series X|S storage as growable up to 100 GB; that figure does not apply to PS5.

A separate entry dated August 18, 2026 raised the BA2 archive limit from 256 to 1,024 and listed localized UI and platform-terminology fixes, as well as fixes for Creation menu and streaming-audio crashes. These are later changes, distinct from the April 2024 PS5 launch. See Bethesda’s patch notes.

The right choice depends on what you already own and which extras you want. The US PlayStation Store lists Standard, Game of the Year, and Anniversary editions for PS4/PS5; prices and availability can change, so check the local store listing before buying.

The US Store lists the Anniversary Edition as a November 10, 2025 release for PS4 and PS5. Its listing describes Creation Club content such as unique weapons, power armor sets, building packs, paint jobs, homes, and alternate Dogmeat appearances. The store also calls Fallout 4 the winner of “over 200 ‘Best Of’ awards”; that is Store listing copy, not an independently audited award count. If you are comparing editions, decide first whether you already own a PS4 copy, whether your PS5 has a disc drive, and whether you want the six expansions, the Anniversary Edition’s Creation Club items, or both. Check current local prices and availability rather than assuming a fixed deal.
