Family Channel’s Canadian broadcast business ended in October 2025, according to WildBrain’s later corporate reporting. WildBrain had announced on August 25, 2025 that it planned to end Family Channel and three related services after Rogers removed them from its lineup. The sources reviewed do not establish Family Channel’s exact final broadcast date or time.
What happened to Family Channel?
WildBrain’s August 25, 2025 announcement named four services: Family Channel, Family Jr., WildBrainTV and Télémagino. The company said Rogers had told it the channels would be removed from its distribution service in the coming months. WildBrain planned to cease broadcasting them after that removal and surrender their licences to the CRTC. A proposed sale of a majority stake in the channels to IoM Media Ventures would not proceed. WildBrain’s announcement set out that plan.
WildBrain later reported in its Q1 fiscal 2026 results that WildBrain Television ceased operations in October 2025. That establishes the end of the broadcast business, but does not provide a verified final airtime for Family Channel itself. WildBrain’s financial reports provide the later update.
Why did Family Channel shut down?
WildBrain attributed the planned closure to failed efforts to secure a new carriage agreement with Rogers, Bell’s earlier decision to remove the channels, and its assessment that the services were no longer commercially viable. That last point is the company’s business judgment, not an independently audited finding in the sources cited here.

Bell had already removed WildBrain’s channels, leaving Rogers as their sole carrier before Rogers’ planned removal, according to MobileSyrup’s 2025 report. MobileSyrup’s coverage also describes the channel’s Canadian history and programming legacy.
What did the CRTC decide about the carriage disputes?
The CRTC’s decisions formed part of the context, but the regulator did not order Family Channel to close. On July 31, 2025, the Commission dismissed WildBrain’s complaint against Rogers. It found that Rogers had not preferred comparable Corus programming services or Disney+ and had not subjected WildBrain’s services to a disadvantage. The CRTC’s Rogers decision explains the findings.

In March 2025, the CRTC also concluded that Bell had not preferred comparable Corus services or subjected WildBrain’s channels to a disadvantage. Those are the regulator’s conclusions about the distribution comparisons before it; they do not establish that the commercial negotiations were equal in every respect. The CRTC’s Bell decision records that ruling.
When was Family Channel’s last broadcast?
WildBrain reported that its television broadcast operations ceased in October 2025, but the reviewed sources do not name Family Channel’s exact last broadcast date or time. It is therefore more accurate to describe the channel as part of the October cessation than to give a specific final-air date.

What was Family Channel known for?
MobileSyrup reports that Family Channel began in 1988 and identifies Canadian original programming such as Life with Derek as part of its legacy.
