Yes. Later reporting confirmed that Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead. The claim that LAPD had not confirmed their identities describes the initial reporting on December 14, 2025—not the current record. Subsequent reporting identified the couple, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported their cause of death.

Why early reports said the identities were unconfirmed

On December 14, 2025, the Associated Press reported that Los Angeles firefighters responding to a medical-aid request found a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman dead. Authorities had not publicly confirmed the people’s identities at that stage. AP also attributed the description “apparent homicide” to LAPD Captain Mike Bland. The report’s uncertainty about identity was specific to that early point in the investigation: AP’s December 14 report.

The title-matching article stating that LAPD had not confirmed a death investigation tied to the Reiners likewise reflects an earlier reporting stage. It should not be read as an accurate summary of what later reporting established: the earlier article.

What later reporting established

The victims and cause of death

Later reports identified the couple as Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. On December 17, 2025, CBS News reported that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner found they died from multiple sharp force injuries: CBS News’ report on the medical examiner’s finding.

The criminal case

On August 12, 2026, the Associated Press reported that a Los Angeles County grand jury indicted Nick Reiner on murder charges, including an allegation of lying in wait, and that he pleaded not guilty. An indictment is a formal accusation; it is not a finding of guilt: AP’s August 12 report.

On September 15, 2026, AP reported that prosecutors would not seek the death penalty. If convicted, Nick Reiner could face life without parole. These are the reported charging and sentencing positions, not a verdict: AP’s September 15 report.

How to read the claim now

The original wording combines a true underlying event with an outdated status update. The deaths were not fabricated: later reporting identified Rob and Michele Singer Reiner and reported the medical examiner’s finding. The “no confirmation from LAPD” language belongs to the initial period, when authorities had not publicly confirmed the identities. The criminal case is a separate matter, and the allegations against Nick Reiner remain allegations unless established in court.
