The FBI reportedly released 475 pages of records concerning the investigation into the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. News reports describe files on forensic evidence—including blood, fibers and hair—and a substantial effort to investigate Bruno Magli shoes. The release was identified as “Part 01,” but the available reporting does not establish whether additional records have since been released.
What was released, and when?
Rolling Stone and ESPN reported on June 7, 2024, that the FBI had released 475 pages of records about the case. ESPN said the FBI labeled the material “Part 01.” The reporting appeared ahead of the 30th anniversary of the murders and roughly two months after O.J. Simpson’s death.
The reports describe the release as FBI records related to the investigation, not as a complete account of the case. The original FBI collection was not available in the sources reviewed for those reports, so details below are attributed to the outlets rather than presented as a page-by-page examination of the files.
What do the documents reportedly cover?
Coverage describes records focused on evidence collection and testing in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The reported subjects include:

- Blood evidence connected with the crime scene.
- Fiber samples and hair samples.
- Footwear evidence and investigators’ efforts to examine Bruno Magli shoes.
Rolling Stone reported that a large portion of the records concerned attempts to connect Simpson to Bruno Magli shoes. Those efforts reportedly included investigating whether he had bought a size 12 pair, examining a replica in Italy, and compiling a list of Bruno Magli stores in the United States. The article also reported that Simpson denied wearing the shoes.
These descriptions indicate investigative activity; they do not, by themselves, establish that Simpson wore a particular pair or that a shoe-related finding conclusively linked him to the crime scene.

Why did the FBI restrict circulation of some information?
ESPN described an FBI memo directing investigators to limit dissemination of information because of intense media interest and the risk of prejudicing pending proceedings. ESPN published this wording from the memo: “Due to the intense media interest in captioned matter, and the potential prejudicial impact that public dissemination could have on pending criminal proceedings, the following information should be handled on a strict need to know basis, and should not be disseminated outside the FBI.”
The quotation is reproduced as ESPN published it; without the original FBI page, its transcription cannot be independently confirmed here.
Does “Part 01” mean more FBI records are available?
ESPN reported that the release was labeled “Part 01” and said it was unclear whether additional documents would be released. That 2024 report does not establish whether further records later became public. The reporting also does not confirm that these 475 pages constitute the full FBI file.
How does the release relate to the case’s legal outcomes?
News coverage notes two distinct outcomes: Simpson was acquitted in the criminal case and was later found liable in a civil suit brought by the families. An acquittal in a criminal proceeding and civil liability are separate legal determinations; neither should be substituted for the other when describing the case or the FBI records.

Sources and what they establish
- Rolling Stone reported the 475-page release and described the records’ reported focus on forensic evidence and Bruno Magli shoes.
- ESPN reported the “Part 01” label and described the evidence-related material and FBI memo.
Neither report, as covered here, supplies a page-by-page account of the original FBI records. Exact document dates, the extent of redactions, and the current status of any later releases therefore remain unestablished.
