Pompompurin won Sanrio’s 2025 Character Ranking with 5,613,659 votes, finishing 185,676 votes ahead of runner-up Cinnamoroll. That makes him Sanrio’s top-ranked character in that year’s fan vote—not necessarily its best-selling character or the favorite of every Sanrio fan.
Who is Pompompurin?
Sanrio describes Pompompurin as “This boy golden retriever is unmistakable in his trademark brown beret.” The company’s character profile portrays him as laid-back and friendly: he loves milk, soft things, and his mother’s cream caramel puddings, enjoys naps and “purin aerobics,” and dreams of getting even bigger. The result is best understood as a specific contest outcome: Pompompurin received the most votes in Sanrio’s 2025 Character Ranking. It does not establish that he led merchandise sales, general public awareness, or every other measure of popularity.

What did the 2025 results show by region?
The overall winner was not the leading character in every country or region. Sanrio’s overseas results list Pompompurin first in the United States, while Pochacco led in South Korea. Those are regional rankings, not alternatives to the overall result. Sanrio’s 2025 overseas ranking results
How many votes were cast in the 2025 ranking?
Sanrio’s dedicated 2025 results page reports 63,160,696 total votes. A 2026 Sanrio company announcement, looking back at the 2025 ranking, gives a different total: 63,166,096. The two official figures differ by 5,400 votes, so they should not be merged or treated as a single settled count. Pompompurin’s own published 2025 total is 5,613,659 on the results page. 2025 results page; Sanrio company announcements

What happened in the ranking after 2025?
Sanrio’s 2026 company announcement says Pompompurin placed first for the second consecutive year and fifth time overall, receiving more than seven million votes during his 30th anniversary year. That is a later result; it does not change what the 2025 ranking recorded. Sanrio’s announcement also quotes Pompompurin saying, “It’s my 30th anniversary year, and I want to enjoy and celebrate it even more with everyone—so let’s all do our best together!” Sanrio Company, Ltd., 2026 announcement
