My Hero Academia: You’re Next is an original film story set in the aftermath of a devastating heroes-and-villains conflict, shortly before the next major confrontation. Its central threat is Dark Might, a man who looks like All Might but claims the role of a new symbol of peace. The Japanese theatrical release, English-language theatrical campaign and home-video announcement refer to different territories and formats, so their dates should not be treated as one worldwide schedule.
What is My Hero Academia: You’re Next about?
The film tells a new story rather than adapting a specific manga arc. The official Japanese movie site places it just before the final battle between heroes and villains. After an all-out fight, Deku and Tomura Shigaraki have both suffered heavy damage; Shigaraki’s retreat brings a temporary pause while another confrontation looms. In a Japan scarred by the conflict, a mysterious man appears and declares himself a new symbol.
That man is Dark Might. He resembles All Might, but the official synopsis stresses that their ideals differ. Dark Might uses his Quirk to create a huge fortress that draws people inside. Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki and the rest of U.A. High’s Class 1-A face him and the Gollini Family. The official Japanese synopsis introduces Anna at Dark Might’s side and Giulio as a man who calls her “Miss Anna” while appearing to pursue her life; it does not, in the cited material, explain the full nature of their relationship or motives. Official Japanese movie site; official English trailer description.
When does the movie take place?
The Japanese official synopsis places the story just before the final confrontation. The English trailer describes it as spring in Deku’s second year at U.A., after the initial all-out battle and before the approaching next clash. That is the trailer’s framing of the film’s place in the story; it does not establish that the movie’s events are required to follow the main series.

What does “You’re Next” mean?
The title echoes the series’ idea of passing on the role of a symbol. In the Japanese synopsis, All Might’s associated line is 「次は君だ。」, translated as “You’re next.” Dark Might answers with 「次は俺だ！」 (“I’m next!”), and the students respond 「次は、僕たちだ――！」 (“Next, it’s our turn!”). The English official trailer also ends its promotional story text with “Next, it’s our turn!” The exchange frames the conflict over who gets to represent hope after All Might; Dark Might’s claim is not simply an imitation of All Might’s appearance, but a challenge to the meaning of that legacy. Official Japanese synopsis; official English trailer description.
Who are the film’s characters and what is confirmed about the cast?
New story characters
Anna and Giulio are introduced in the official synopsis as characters in the film’s original story. Anna is beside Dark Might; Giulio calls her “Miss Anna” and appears to be pursuing her. The synopsis presents these details as mysteries rather than providing a complete character history.

The English trailer description names Daiki Yamashita, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Yuki Kaji, Ayane Sakura, Kaito Ishikawa, Tetsu Inada, Yuichi Nakamura, Mamoru Miyano, Meru Nukumi and Kenta Miyake in the voice cast, and identifies Tensai Okamura as director. Its homepage identifies Horikoshi as the manga’s creator and says the manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014.
