How to read the recent archive entries
The archive’s year pages can include more than one cover record. That does not make every record a separate annual print issue. In particular, it explicitly labels the 2025 Hailey Van Lith and Brianna LaPaglia entries as digital, describes Lizzo’s 2026 entry as the July 2026 digital issue, and identifies the NFL WAGs entry as the first digital issue of 2026. The 2024 Legends and Alix Earle entries are separate archive listings; the archive information summarized here does not specify them as digital.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the cover history shows
The chronology includes solo covers, group covers, and repeat appearances: Christie Brinkley is listed for 1979, 1980, and 1981; Elle Macpherson for 1986–1988; and Kate Upton for 2012, 2013, and 2017. It also includes people known for work beyond modeling, such as athlete, musician, and other public-figure cover subjects. Those differences make the list useful as a record of SI’s cover choices, but the catalog alone does not establish the broader cultural impact of any particular cover.
