Eric Braeden’s description of his cancer diagnosis as “on hold” came in an April 2024 interview. It was his own wording—not a clinical finding that he was cancer-free. His public updates trace back to a 2023 diagnosis involving cancerous cells near his bladder, but the available reports do not establish his cancer status as of October 8, 2026.
What did Eric Braeden mean by “cancer diagnosis on hold”?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published April 10, 2024, Braeden said: “My cancer diagnosis right now is on hold, as it were, and [I’m] very grateful for very good doctors and very good modern cancer treatment which has improved enormously.” The interview was conducted during a February set visit. Entertainment Tonight reported his statement; “on hold” should be understood as Braeden’s personal description, not a formal medical status.
In the same coverage, Braeden encouraged people to get health checks in time. That is his advice, not individualized screening guidance for every reader.
What cancer did Braeden say he had?
In April 2023, Braeden publicly described being diagnosed after seeking medical care for urinary symptoms. CBS News reported his account that doctors found cancerous cells near his bladder, including high-grade cells after a procedure, and that he was receiving immunotherapy. The report does not establish a stage or prognosis, so neither should be inferred.

What did his later updates say?
- August 2023: Braeden said a cystoscopy found no cancer. He also said he expected about three prophylactic BCG infusions, according to Parade. That update describes the result at that point, not permanent remission.
- April 2024: In the Entertainment Tonight interview, he described his diagnosis as “on hold” and expressed gratitude for his doctors and modern treatment.
- March 2026: Parade reported that Braeden had recovered from pneumonia and returned to work on The Young and the Restless. That report was about pneumonia and did not provide a cancer update.
Is Eric Braeden cancer-free now?
The dated reports establish what Braeden said about his diagnosis and treatment in 2023 and how he described the situation in 2024. They do not establish his cancer status on October 8, 2026. A cystoscopy reported as clear at one point and the later phrase “on hold” do not, by themselves, show that he is currently cancer-free, in remission, or receiving treatment.
Why Braeden said he shared his diagnosis
As reported by CBS News, Braeden explained his decision to speak publicly in his April 2023 announcement video: “I hate to be this personal, but I think this may be good for some older guys who may or may not listen to this.” His account can raise awareness, but it is not a substitute for medical advice from a clinician.
