For Andrea Martin, playing Sister Andrea in Evil meant holding two ideas at once: the demons were performers inside full-body prosthetics, but Sister Andrea had to believe she was facing real demons. In a 2024 interview, Martin also described her character’s faith and her personal unease about artificial intelligence in art.
What was it like for Andrea Martin to act with demons in prosthetics?
Martin told io9’s Cheryl Eddy that she was aware of the people inside the demon suits and thought about the demands of their full-body prosthetics. But that awareness could not replace the character’s perspective. To play the scene, she said, “You have to stay in character. You have to believe that this is a demon.”

That tension is the practical challenge she described: Martin could recognize the physical work happening on set while performing as a nun who sees and confronts demons. The interview does not identify the performers or describe the creatures as entirely digital.
How did Martin understand Sister Andrea?
Martin said she initially expected Sister Andrea to be a guest role and tried to play what was written. As the series continued and the writers added material, Martin developed more of the character’s backstory herself. She summed up the nun’s guiding force simply: “She’s driven by faith.”

In Martin’s account, Sister Andrea’s faith does not mean unquestioning obedience to church authority. She described the character as willing to speak against the hierarchy and challenge how women and nuns are regarded.
What does Andrea Martin think about AI in art?
Martin’s view is divided by application. She said, “I think AI can work wonders with medicine and science,” but added, “But when it comes to art, it’s so frightening.” These are her personal hopes and concerns, not evidence about AI’s measured effects on artists or audiences.

She predicted that people might seek out live experiences such as theater, ballet, opera, and symphony performances as AI becomes more prominent. Martin also voiced worry about children’s future exposure to devices and the internet. The interview reports those concerns as her outlook; it does not establish that live audiences are growing or offer evidence for a particular approach to children’s device use.
What is Evil about, and where does Sister Andrea fit?
Evil is a psychological mystery series about investigations that examine evil across the boundary between science and religion. Paramount Global Content lists Andrea Martin as Sister Andrea, the nun whose encounters with demons give her a distinctive place in the show’s supernatural and spiritual conflicts.
