Dr. Will Kirby and David Genat became rivals on Season 2 of Deal or No Deal Island, but the exact “years before” Golden God remark suggested by the headline cannot be verified from the available published interviews. What is documented is how Kirby recognized Genat’s Australian Survivor history, how their game relationship played out, and how Genat described their friendship after filming.
What is known about the “Golden God” remark?
Coverage associates Genat with the “Golden God” nickname, but the specific exchange implied by the headline—that Kirby called himself a “Golden God” years before Genat became his rival—is not confirmed in the accessible interviews. It would be misleading to present that wording, timing, or origin as a verified quote.

Parade’s January 2025 profile describes Genat as an Australian Survivor winner making his American reality-TV debut on Deal or No Deal Island. The story also quotes him characterizing the show as having a “really big social component and a huge strategic component.” Read the Parade interview.
How did Kirby and Genat become rivals?
Both men competed in Season 2 of Deal or No Deal Island. In a TV Insider interview published February 12, 2025, Genat discussed Kirby recognizing his Australian Survivor history. That recognition connected Genat’s established reality-TV persona with the game they were playing together. Read TV Insider’s interview with Genat.

TV Insider’s later account places Kirby’s arrival in the second episode and says Genat eliminated him in the seventh. The episode sequence gives the rivalry a clear on-screen outcome, though it does not verify the headline’s “years before” claim. TV Insider’s interview with Kirby.
Were they rivals off camera, too?
Genat later drew a distinction between their dynamic during play and their relationship afterward. In a March 27, 2025 Reality Tea interview, he said they had a “great relationship since filming ended,” while acknowledging that they “did not have a good relationship” during filming. The remarks support a game-time rivalry followed by a friendlier post-show relationship; they do not establish that Kirby originated Genat’s nickname. Read Genat’s Reality Tea interview.
