The character writes for the fictional Tijuana newspaper La Voz and pursues stories about drug traffickers at personal risk.
Why Andrea Nuñez mattered to Luisa Rubino
Rubino told People en Español that she was happy to read the scripts because Andrea represented women’s ability to claim space and make a difference. “I was and am very happy because she is a role model for women’s empowerment, and that we can do it,” she said.
Rubino described Nuñez as working in a world ruled by men, where her purpose is to bring hidden facts into view: “Even if the Narcos world has been ruled by men and is obscure, she has an opportunity to shed light on the truth. That’s all that matters to her.” The interview presents this as Rubino’s reading of the character, not as a claim about the historical record or journalism generally.
Andrea Nuñez, the journalist
In the series, Nuñez writes for La Voz, a Tijuana newspaper. The interview describes her as pursuing stories that expose drug traffickers despite the danger. It also says the character drew inspiration from several influential female Mexican journalists, but does not identify them; the source therefore does not support naming specific inspirations.
