Phillip Solomon said he chose a guaranteed $75,000 over trying to win power in Deal or No Deal Island’s final-five challenge. David Genat took the highest-value case, gained the power to eliminate someone, and sent Solomon home at Temple. In a later interview, Solomon said he did not regret trusting Genat—even though learning about Genat’s Australian Survivor history left him feeling hurt and conflicted.
How David Genat eliminated Phillip Solomon
The elimination happened in “Money to Burn,” the season 2 episode that aired March 11, 2025. The final five were Genat, Solomon, Parvati Shallow, Courtney “CK” Kim, and Alexis Lete. Before the challenge, Genat approached Solomon about a possible partnership.
The challenge required contestants to hold a heavy bar while deciding when to drop and claim a case value. The person who secured the highest-value case gained safety and the power to send someone home, as well as choosing who would face the Banker. Solomon took the $75,000 available to him. Genat secured the highest-value case and its power, then chose Solomon for elimination at Temple. TV Insider’s episode recap and interview and Reality Blurred’s recap describe the challenge and outcome.
Solomon could have dropped when Genat did. That would have left Lete with the highest case and the power. Instead, Genat persuaded Solomon not to do that, and Solomon chose the money while Genat took control of the decision at Temple.

Why Solomon chose the $75,000
In a March 16, 2025 interview with Hidden Remote, Solomon explained that he initially considered going for power but reconsidered as the remaining players’ positions changed. He saw the choice as a guaranteed sum versus a chance to advance to the Banker game.
“I either have a one in five shot at getting the opportunity to play for $10 million, or getting money that I’m sure of right now,” Solomon said. That was his description of the choice, not an independently verified statistical probability. He also stressed that reaching the final game would not guarantee the prize: “The winner does not get $10 million.” As he explained it, the winner would still have to play, make a good deal, and select the briefcase containing the $10 million.

Did Solomon regret trusting Genat?
No. Solomon said he did not regret trusting Genat. “I wish I could say I regret it, but I don’t,” he told Hidden Remote. He described talking with Genat and working out with him each morning, and said he believed their friendship might have been genuine outside the game.
Solomon also said he felt hurt and betrayed after learning that Genat had won Australian Survivor. At the same time, he admired how Genat had navigated the game without disclosing that experience. Solomon’s account explains how he felt about their relationship and the decision; it does not establish Genat’s private motive for asking him to yield the case or later eliminating him.
