That framing gives the record a shared atmosphere, but guitarist Ray Toro said it is not a continuous story told song by song. The original US edition has 15 tracks, including three short radio interludes; the 2026 deluxe presentation gives the album a 12-song sequence and adds nine rare or unreleased recordings.
What is Danger Days?
My Chemical Romance released Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in the United States on November 22, 2010. Warner Music Japan lists November 24, 2010, as the Japanese release date. Apple Music catalogs the original album at 15 songs and 51 minutes. Apple Music’s album listing uses the label “concept LP,” while the original track sequence includes spoken pieces that establish its broadcast-like frame. Warner Music Japan’s 2010 announcement gives the release dates and original track order.
Is Danger Days a concept album?
It has a concept and a fictional setting, but it is not a linear story album in which each song advances one plot. In a December 2010 interview with M Music & Musicians, guitarist Ray Toro described the framing as “a series of pirate-radio broadcasts coming from California in the year 2019.” He also drew a distinction between that approach and a tightly theatrical work such as The Black Parade: “When you listen to the record, there’s not a story being told.” Toro’s December 2010 interview explains that characters and settings were especially useful for the videos, rather than a plot every listener needed to follow.
Apple Music’s synopsis describes the Killjoys as misfits fighting evil forces. That is a useful shorthand for the fictional world, not a track-by-track narrative summary. The broadcast interludes, artwork, and videos supply connective texture; the songs themselves can be heard without treating them as chapters in a single storyline.

How the album came together
Toro recalled that My Chemical Romance had spent much of 2009 working with producer Brendan O’Brien before making new songs with Rob Cavallo. The band decided to set aside the earlier material after the newer songs created momentum. Toro identified “Na Na Na” as the catalyst for starting over; this is his account in the December 2010 interview, rather than a separate studio log.
He also connected ideas in the album with Gerard Way’s art and a comic Way was developing with Shaun Simon. Toro described the album’s central idea as “the returning of color to the world,” alongside the danger implied by its title and setting. The bright visual palette and the threatening world are not opposites here: they are part of the same imagined future.

The deluxe edition is described as remastered.
