The officially confirmed major forward time skips are two and a half years between Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, and three years before Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Boruto’s anime “Time Slip” arc is different: it involves time travel, not a new stretch of ordinary character aging. The timeline below separates those events and flags transitions for which an exact duration is not established by the cited official sources.
The major forward time skips, in order
| Transition | Continuity and direction | Officially stated interval | What to read or watch next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naruto Part I → Naruto Shippuden | Main story; forward in time | Two and a half years, according to Studio Pierrot’s official Shippuden archive. | Continue with Naruto Shippuden. |
| Naruto’s postwar and epilogue era → Boruto: Naruto Next Generations | Next-generation continuation; forward across a generational transition | One exact interval for this transition is not stated on the reviewed official pages. The official franchise site presents the Naruto and Boruto works as parts of the franchise; VIZ’s Boruto description identifies Boruto as Naruto’s son and begins his story at the Ninja Academy. | Begin Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. |
| Boruto: Naruto Next Generations → Boruto: Two Blue Vortex | Main sequel story; forward in time | Three years. The official author Q&A says Boruto returns to the village three years later. | Continue with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex; VIZ lists Volume 1. |
1. Naruto Part I to Naruto Shippuden: two and a half years
The clearest early-series jump comes after Naruto leaves the village to train with Jiraiya. When Naruto Shippuden begins, Studio Pierrot’s official archive states that two and a half years have passed since Naruto and his friends parted from Sasuke. That is the confirmed interval to use for the transition—not a rounded “two years” or an estimate based on character ages.
For the main story, move from the original Naruto series into Naruto Shippuden. The latter is the series set after the training period.
2. From the Naruto era to Boruto: a generational transition without one confirmed interval here
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations follows Naruto’s son, Boruto, whose story begins at the Ninja Academy, as VIZ’s series description explains. That establishes the next-generation order after Naruto’s story, but the cited official pages do not give one exact number of years covering every postwar event, epilogue, and the beginning of Boruto’s story.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
So this belongs on a chronological overview, but it should not be assigned a precise duration on the evidence cited here. The franchise site’s presentation of the Naruto and Boruto titles supports their place in the wider series, not a single measured interval between all the events that connect them.
3. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations to Two Blue Vortex: three years
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex picks up after a three-year jump. In an official Q&A attributed to author Mikio Ikemoto, Boruto is described as returning to the village “three years later.” The same page connects the passage of time with Boruto’s maturity. VIZ’s listing of Two Blue Vortex, Vol. 1 presents the sequel with its cast grown up.

To follow the story in sequence, finish Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and then start Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. VIZ lists the sequel’s first volume as a way to begin that post-skip story.
Where the anime Time Slip arc fits
The Boruto anime’s “Time Slip” is a separately categorized story, not another forward time skip like the transitions above. The official anime catalog labels it “Time Slip”; that name refers to a time-travel arc. It should not be counted as a verified interval in which the main cast simply grows older between series.

The catalog page does not provide a complete account of the arc’s timeline mechanics or a comprehensive list of elapsed-time transitions elsewhere in the anime. Keep the arc separate from the two confirmed forward jumps rather than using its title as evidence of a character-aging interval.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What “every” can—and cannot—mean for this timeline
There are multiple Naruto and Boruto continuities and formats, including manga, anime-original stories, films, novels, epilogues, and flashbacks. An exhaustive list across all of them requires defining which material counts and checking the underlying official chapters or episodes for each transition. The official sources cited here support the major manga-series chronology above, but do not establish exact durations for every postwar event or anime-only transition.

That distinction matters: a gap between series, a generational change, and a time-travel plot are not interchangeable. Where an official source gives a duration, it is listed; where the cited sources do not establish one, the interval is left unspecified rather than filled in with a fan timeline estimate.
