Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is still in screenplay development, but it does not yet have a confirmed release date or cast. In an August 16, 2026 report, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said, “We’re talking to Johnny. We’re working on a screenplay. Hopefully we can get this done.” That confirms discussions with Johnny Depp and ongoing writing—not that Depp has signed on or Disney has greenlit production.
Is Pirates of the Caribbean 6 happening?
The next film remains in development as of the latest reviewed update, published August 16, 2026. TheWrap reported Bruckheimer’s remarks from a red-carpet interview with Deadline Hollywood at Disney’s D23 expo. His statement is the clearest current indication of progress: the team is working on a screenplay and talking with Depp. It does not establish that production is approved or scheduled. The previous released film remains the fifth entry, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which Disney lists as a PG-13 release from May 26, 2017. Disney’s film page.
Is Johnny Depp returning as Jack Sparrow?
Depp’s return is unconfirmed. “We’re talking to Johnny” means discussions are taking place; it is not a casting announcement or evidence of a signed agreement. TheWrap said representatives for Depp, Bruckheimer, and Disney did not respond to its requests for comment. Until Disney or the people involved announce a deal, reports that Depp will reprise Jack Sparrow should be treated as unconfirmed.

Is Margot Robbie in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
Bruckheimer said in a 2025 interview that Robbie was “still involved,” but did not specify whether she would act, produce, or participate in another capacity. He also said Ted Elliott had worked on the current script with another writer, and that two scripts had existed before the team moved forward with one. Those comments do not establish that Robbie is attached to the screenplay discussed in August 2026, or that an earlier Robbie-related project and the current film are the same project. TheWrap’s 2025 report.
Has Disney announced the title, plot, release date, or production schedule?
No. The reviewed evidence does not establish an official sixth-film title, story synopsis, release date, start-of-production date, or final cast list. The screenplay is still being worked on, so a specific year or plot should not be presented as settled. Disney’s official Pirates of the Caribbean film page documents the existing franchise movies but does not announce a sixth installment.

- Who is speaking? An official Disney announcement or a direct, attributable statement from a producer or cast member carries more weight than an unattributed rumor.
- When was it reported? The August 2026 screenplay update is newer than earlier development concepts and should take precedence when describing the film’s current status.
- What does the wording actually confirm? Writing a screenplay and holding talks are different milestones from a greenlight, signed cast, production start, or scheduled release.
