Michael Dorn’s reported ex-military jet ownership spans three aircraft: a CASA HA-200 Saeta, a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star and a North American F-86 Sabre. They mark a progression from his first jet, through a trainer, to a fighter. Dorn also owned a Sabreliner 40A, but the available account describes it as a corporate jet—not as an ex-military aircraft.
Which military jets did Michael Dorn own?
A 2023 profile in AV Buyer reports the sequence as the CASA HA-200, T-33 and F-86. Dorn’s own 1997 interview independently confirms that he owned a Canadair T-33 and an F-86 Mark 6. StarTrek.com also says he owned an F-86 Sabre.
| Aircraft | Place in Dorn’s reported sequence | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| CASA HA-200 Saeta | First military jet | AV Buyer describes it as his introduction to jet operations. |
| Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star | Trainer, acquired after the CASA | AV Buyer reports the purchase; Dorn said in a 1997 interview, “I owned a Canadair T-33.” |
| North American F-86 Sabre | Fighter, later in the sequence | AV Buyer identifies an F-86C; Dorn called his aircraft an “F-86 Mark 6” in 1997. StarTrek.com refers to an F-86 Sabre. |
The variant descriptions are not identical: the 2023 profile says F-86C, while Dorn’s 1997 account says Mark 6. The available sources do not establish whether those labels refer to the same individual aircraft, so they should be treated as reported descriptions rather than reconciled into a single variant.
How the aircraft fit into his path as a pilot
CASA HA-200 Saeta
AV Buyer calls the CASA HA-200 Dorn’s first military jet and says it introduced him to jet operations. A 2024 SlashGear summary also identifies the HA-200 as his first military jet. The sources support the model and its place in the sequence, but not a registration or exact purchase date.

Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star
After the CASA, Dorn acquired a T-33, according to AV Buyer. The profile describes a training progression modeled on Air Force cadet training. In a 1997 interview with CJAD, Dorn recalled owning a Canadair T-33; AV Buyer later quoted him describing it as “built like a tank.” Neither account identifies the particular airframe.
North American F-86 Sabre
The F-86 came later in the reported sequence. In a 1997 interview, Dorn said he owned an F-86 Mark 6. The 2023 AV Buyer profile lists an F-86C, and StarTrek.com uses the broader name F-86 Sabre. These accounts support ownership of an F-86, while leaving the precise variant and airframe identity uncertain.

What inspired Dorn to own ex-military jets?
Dorn said that flying with the Blue Angels opened his eyes to the possibility of owning former military aircraft. In a 2016 interview, he recalled, “I discovered that you could own these airplanes.” He said he then looked into the rules and availability. AV Buyer’s later account describes the CASA as his introduction to jets, followed by further training before he acquired the T-33.
Was the Sabreliner a military jet?
Dorn also owned a North American Sabreliner 40A, but it belongs in a separate category. AV Buyer describes it as a corporate jet, says Dorn found operating it—and the need for a co-pilot—a poor fit, and reports that he later sold it. The available account does not establish that his particular Sabreliner had military service, so it should not be counted among the three reported ex-military jets.

Does Michael Dorn still own a military jet?
The latest detailed ownership status in the cited accounts is AV Buyer’s April 2023 profile: it says Dorn had sold the Sabreliner and was waiting for the right military jet. That report does not establish whether he acquired another aircraft afterward, so his current ownership status is unknown from these sources.
