The Atlantic described it as a seven-page letter with wildlife photographs. The available record supports calling it an apparent or attributed letter; it does not independently authenticate who wrote it or establish that its inclusion implies knowledge of or participation in Epstein’s crimes.
What was Epstein’s birthday book?
According to a July 25, 2025 letter from House Oversight Democrats, Ghislaine Maxwell compiled the album in 2003 for Epstein’s 50th birthday. The lawmakers described it as containing messages and illustrations from Epstein’s wealthy and powerful friends and associates, and asked his estate for a complete, unredacted copy as part of their stated congressional oversight work. Read the lawmakers’ July 25 letter.
How did the album become public?
The estate provided the book to the House committee in September 2025 in response to a subpoena, and the committee released records. The Democrats’ July request came before that release; it was a request for the album, not verification of its contents. On November 12, 2025, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform announced an additional release of 20,000 pages of estate documents. Committee release on the birthday book and November 12 committee announcement.
What does the released record say about Myhrvold?
The archival copy is indexed as HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_000001. The Atlantic reported that the album includes a seven-page contribution attributed to Myhrvold, accompanied by graphic wildlife photographs from an Africa trip. This describes what the document and reporting attribute to him; it is not, by itself, independent proof of authorship. The Atlantic’s report.

Did Nathan Myhrvold write the letter, and what did he say?
The careful answer is that the released album contains a section attributed to Myhrvold. The sources reviewed do not establish independent handwriting or forensic authentication of its authorship, so an unqualified statement that he wrote it goes beyond what they verify.
The Atlantic reported a response from Melissa Lukach, identified as a Myhrvold spokesperson: “Myhrvold knew Epstein from TED conferences and as a donor to basic scientific research. He regrets that he ever met him.” That is the spokesperson’s account as reported by The Atlantic, not independent confirmation of the history described in the statement. The available reporting does not provide a comprehensive verified account of the album’s contents.

Does inclusion in the album prove involvement in Epstein’s crimes?
No. Presence in a birthday album establishes that the released record contains a contribution attributed to a person; it does not, on its own, establish criminal conduct, knowledge of crimes, participation, or endorsement. Those are separate claims requiring separate evidence. The distinction matters here because the document’s attribution has not been independently authenticated in the sources reviewed.
