What did Elon Musk say about his health?
Futurism’s February 7, 2023, account summarized a Wall Street Journal report about Musk’s health and reproduced his response. Musk wrote: “Last three months were extremely tough, as had to save Twitter from bankruptcy, while fulfilling essential Tesla & SpaceX duties.” He added: “Wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone.”
Those remarks describe how Musk characterized that period and his workload. They do not establish that work caused his reported sleep or pain problems.
What health concerns were reported?
Futurism attributed to the Wall Street Journal reporting that Musk was experiencing insomnia and back and neck pain, and that he had undergone two surgeries addressing neck pain. These are reported claims relayed by Futurism, not independently verified medical facts in its account.

Futurism also quoted Musk speaking to a lawyer during a trial: “I had trouble sleeping last night, so unfortunately, I’m not at my best.” He continued, “I’m sorry for squirming around. I have quite severe back pain.” The account does not name the lawyer.
What did Musk say caused his back pain?
In a 2022 post reproduced by Futurism, Musk connected years of back pain to an injury during an attempted sumo-wrestling throw. He described it as having “cost me smashing my c5-c6 disc & 8 years of mega back pain.” That is Musk’s account of the cause; Futurism’s article does not medically verify it.
