What was on the Bash in Berlin 2024 card?
WWE listed five matches: three championship bouts, a Strap Match, and a mixed tag. The results and match narratives below follow WWE’s event recap; the judgments about execution and payoff are my own. Gunther retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton
Gunther defeated Orton to keep the title. WWE’s recap describes Orton attacking around ringside, including at the steel steps and announce table, before Gunther turned the momentum and finished with a sleeper hold. Afterward, Gunther offered a handshake, which Orton accepted. [WWE’s match recap]

The match’s core contrast was clear: Orton looked for openings to punish the champion, while Gunther had to withstand that targeted offense and find a decisive hold. The sleeper made the finish feel like Gunther’s control had finally overcome Orton’s bursts of damage. The handshake gave the bout a restrained coda rather than extending the conflict after the bell. As a title defense, it was a satisfying, hard-edged opener in spirit, even without needing a title change to make the stakes feel real.
Priest and Ripley defeated Mysterio and Morgan in the mixed tag
Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley beat Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan, with Ripley pinning Morgan after a Riptide. WWE’s recap notes early interference and shifts in momentum before Priest and Ripley took control. The pairing’s victory delivered the revenge premise WWE had promoted around the former Judgment Day allies. [WWE’s match recap]
The mixed-tag format gave the match two linked rivalries to service at once, and Priest and Ripley’s teamwork made the payoff legible: they were not merely winning individually, but reasserting themselves as a unit. Ripley’s pin on Morgan supplied the sharpest resolution, though it also made the finish more focused on the women’s side of the conflict than on a simultaneous reckoning for both opponents. The result still landed as a satisfying revenge beat because the winning pair’s control built toward a clean, decisive final move.

CM Punk beat Drew McIntyre in the Strap Match

The format gave this grudge match a different rhythm from the title bouts: the physical connection kept the rivals tethered, while the four-corner requirement made every apparent opening a question of whether Punk could complete the circuit. That objective made the finish easy to understand and tied the bracelet detail to the personal stakes rather than leaving it as decoration. In my view, the stipulation gave the feud a memorable visual payoff; its value depended on the audience tracking the four-corner goal, and the finish delivered exactly that.
Belair and Cargill won the Women’s Tag Team Championship
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill defeated The Unholy Union’s Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn to regain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. WWE’s account says Belair stopped Dawn from capitalizing on Fyre’s Swanton Bomb, and the challengers then hit their Wheelbarrow Suplex/DDT combination. [WWE’s match recap]

The match used a familiar tag structure: the champions had a chance to exploit a major impact move, Belair disrupted that opportunity, and the challengers turned the opening into their own combination offense. That sequence made the title change feel earned through timing and partnership rather than a sudden, disconnected finish. Belair and Cargill regaining the belts also gave the result a clear consequence for the division, while the closing teamwork showed why they were positioned as a formidable pair.

The bout’s tension came from trust rather than a simple hero-versus-villain setup: Owens had the opportunity to exploit the injury but struggled to do it. That hesitation gave the finish a character-based explanation, not just a physical one. Rhodes’ survival and final Cross Rhodes resolved the title defense, though the story’s effectiveness rests on how much weight a viewer gives Owens’ reluctance as the match’s central obstacle. For me, it made the bout more personal than a standard championship challenge, even as the champion ultimately found a conventional finishing move.

How the five matches fit together
The card moved among distinct kinds of stakes rather than repeating one match template: two singles title defenses, a title change, a personal grudge match with a special rule, and a mixed-tag revenge story. The clearest immediate shift in championship status came from Belair and Cargill’s win; the other two singles champions retained. Punk’s four-turnbuckle victory gave the non-title match a finish tied directly to its stipulation, while the mixed tag resolved its alliance story through the winning team’s coordination.
WWE’s published recap is a source for the company’s account of what happened, not an independent audience survey or a neutral match rating. The evaluations here—particularly of pacing, clarity, and payoff—are review judgments, not measured scores.
