The 2017 SmackDown Tag Team Championship rivalry between The Usos and The New Day produced four central title matches, with the championship changing hands in each one. Ranked by stakes, stipulation and impact on the feud—not by a claim of objective match quality—the Hell in a Cell showdown comes first, while Battleground marks the rivalry’s turning point.
How this ranking works
This watchlist ranks the four documented title matches at the heart of the 2017 rivalry. The criteria are the stakes of the result, the match’s stipulation and escalation, and how it shifted the teams’ positions in the feud. WWE’s official recaps and preview establish those details; the order is an editorial judgment, not an official rating.

1. Hell in a Cell 2017: The Usos win the titles
The Usos defeated The New Day in a Hell in a Cell match to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. It ranks first because the title was contested inside the cell after the teams had already traded it, and the match brought the feud’s escalating stipulations to a major payoff.
WWE’s recap describes Big E spearing into the cell, Xavier Woods using musical instruments and later being restrained, and The Usos turning to kendo sticks before winning. The official account makes the cell and those weapons part of the match’s escalation; it does not establish an objective quality score.

2. Battleground 2017: The New Day take the championship
The New Day defeated The Usos to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, beginning the sequence of title changes that defined this rivalry’s 2017 peak. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods represented The New Day in the match.
The result also carried a historic distinction: WWE described The New Day as the first team to hold the tag team titles of both brands. That milestone gives Battleground more weight than a routine title defense and makes it the defining turning point in this watchlist.

3. SummerSlam 2017 Kickoff: The Usos regain the titles
The Usos defeated The New Day on the SummerSlam Kickoff to reclaim the championship and become two-time SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Their win reversed the result from Battleground and restored the title balance between the teams.
WWE’s recap says The Usos isolated Woods and kept Big E from entering the match early; the finish came with a double splash on Big E. The title change makes this an essential chapter, even though its documented stakes and stipulation are less distinctive than the matches ranked above it.

4. September 12, 2017: Sin City Street Fight
In Las Vegas, The New Day regained the titles from The Usos in a Sin City Street Fight, according to WWE’s Hell in a Cell preview. The preview identifies the date, location, stipulation and title change, but does not provide a dedicated full match recap here. Details beyond those points are therefore not established in that account.
This match matters because it put the championship back with The New Day before the Hell in a Cell rematch. Its lower placement reflects the thinner available match detail, not a claim about how it compares in ring to the other bouts.

What not to count as a direct match
The rivalry’s central 2017 title sequence ends with Hell in a Cell. At Survivor Series 2017, The Usos faced Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Sheamus, while The Shield faced The New Day; those were separate matches, not a head-to-head Usos–New Day bout. At WrestleMania 34, the teams later met in a three-way SmackDown Tag Team Championship match with The Bludgeon Brothers, but WWE’s cited page is an event listing rather than a focused recap. These are relevant later appearances, but they are outside this four-match ranking.
