Disney+’s October 5, 2026 guide identifies five Avengers for Avengers: Doomsday: Thor, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, Ant-Man and Shang-Chi. That is not the whole film ensemble: the confirmed characters also include the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Wakandans and Thunderbolts-linked figures. The film is scheduled for December 18, 2026, in the United States and has not yet premiered, so the characters’ comic histories offer context—not confirmation of what they will do onscreen.
Which Avengers are confirmed for Doomsday?
Disney+’s UK guide, published October 5, 2026, names these five characters in its Avengers group. Disney’s US film listing also identifies several of them in promotional captions. Official identification confirms their inclusion in the film, but not their screen time, alliances or specific plot roles.

| Character | Film identification | What the cited Secret Wars material establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Thor | Named in Disney+’s guide; Disney’s US film-page captions identify Thor. | Thor is among the heroes drawn into the 1984 Battleworld conflict. Marvel’s overview does not specify a distinct role for him in the 2015 event. |
| Steve Rogers / Captain America | Named in Disney+’s guide; Disney’s US captions identify Steve Rogers/Captain America. | In the 1984 story, Captain America helps the heroes in the conclusion. Marvel’s overview does not specify a distinct role for him in the 2015 event. |
| Sam Wilson / Captain America | Named in Disney+’s guide; Disney’s US captions identify Sam Wilson/Captain America. | The cited Marvel overview does not establish a specific role for Sam in either comic event. |
| Ant-Man / Scott Lang | Named as Ant-Man in Disney+’s guide; Disney’s US captions identify Scott Lang/Ant-Man. | The cited Marvel overview does not establish a specific role for Ant-Man in either comic event. |
| Shang-Chi | Named in Disney+’s guide; Disney’s US captions identify Shang-Chi. | The cited Marvel overview does not establish a specific role for Shang-Chi in either comic event. |
This is a deliberately narrow list: it follows the Avengers grouping in Disney+’s guide rather than treating every Doomsday cast member as an Avenger. The same guide names members of the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Wakandan characters and Thunderbolts-linked characters. Disney says some cast and character details remain unknown.
What does Doctor Doom have to do with Secret Wars?
Doctor Doom is a central villain in both major Secret Wars comics, but his position differs between them. Robert Downey Jr. returns in Doomsday in a new role as Victor von Doom, according to The Walt Disney Company’s March 26, 2025 announcement. Disney+ says there is no confirmed connection between Tony Stark and Doctor Doom; a theory that Doom is Iron Man or a Stark variant is not established fact.

#1 Best Overall
The two comic events provide very different versions of Doom’s rise to power. Neither one proves that the film will adapt its plot, setting or character relationships.
How the 1984 Secret Wars uses its heroes
Marvel describes the original, 12-issue Secret Wars (1984–1985) as a conflict in which the Beyonder transports prominent heroes—including Avengers, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and the Hulk—to Battleworld, where heroes and villains are made to fight. Doom is a principal villain and eventually takes enough cosmic power to rule Battleworld temporarily.
Captain America and Thor
Captain America helps the heroes in the story’s conclusion. Thor is among the heroes brought into the forced Battleworld conflict, though Marvel’s overview does not single out a separate turning point for him. The source does not establish comparable individual roles for Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Ant-Man or Shang-Chi in this event.
Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four
Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four are long-running opponents of Doom, making their presence relevant to the comic’s central conflict. That history is useful context for a film ensemble that includes the Fantastic Four, but it is not confirmation of how the film will use Reed, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm or Ben Grimm.
Spider-Man’s black costume
Spider-Man’s encounter with the sentient black costume is one of the 1984 event’s most consequential developments. Spider-Man is not among the characters identified in the cited Doomsday guide, and this comic development should not be read as a hint that it will appear in the film.
How the 2015 Secret Wars changes the conflict
Marvel’s 2015 event begins with incursions threatening the Multiverse. Doom and Owen Reece, also known as Molecule Man, are involved in a plan connected to the threat. Doom gains immense power, creates a patchwork Battleworld and rules it as a god. The event spans nine main issues, collected in Marvel’s Secret Wars (2015) trade paperback.
Rank #2
Reed Richards challenges Doom
Reed is Doom’s central nemesis in this story. Before the final incursion, Reed and his daughter Valeria help create a life raft to preserve selected survivors. Reed later confronts Doom, and the story ends with Reed rebuilding the Multiverse. The cited Marvel account makes this rivalry the clearest character-level link between the 2015 event and the Fantastic Four.
Black Panther and the Thing
Marvel’s account highlights Black Panther wielding the Infinity Gauntlet during the heroes’ distraction and Ben Grimm, the Thing, taking part in a giant confrontation with Galactus. Those are major moments for characters who are also named in the Doomsday ensemble—but they remain events from the comic, not announced film scenes.
A different kind of ending
The 2015 story is about multiversal destruction and reconstruction, not simply heroes and villains forced into a single Battleworld fight. Alongside Reed’s role, Marvel notes that Miles Morales moves into the main Marvel Universe. That broader consequence is another reason not to treat the two series as interchangeable.

| Question | Secret Wars (1984–1985) | Secret Wars (2015–2016) |
|---|---|---|
| Scale of the crisis | The Beyonder brings heroes and villains to Battleworld for a forced conflict. | Incursions threaten the Multiverse; Doom’s Battleworld follows its near-collapse. |
| Doom’s position | A principal villain who seizes cosmic power and rules Battleworld temporarily. | A godlike ruler who creates and governs Battleworld. |
| Heroes’ central task | Survive the conflict and find a way through it. | Challenge Doom and, ultimately, restore reality. |
| Notable character payoffs in Marvel’s overview | Captain America helps the heroes in the conclusion; Spider-Man encounters the black costume. | Reed confronts Doom and rebuilds the Multiverse; Black Panther and the Thing have prominent moments. |
| Publication scope | 12 issues, published in 1984–1985, according to Marvel. | Nine main issues, collected in Marvel’s 2015 trade paperback. |
The shared title does not mean the stories have the same premise or ending. A comparison between either comic and Doomsday is a comparison, not evidence of an adaptation choice.
Which Secret Wars comic should you read?
- Choose the 2015 series if you want the multiverse-collapse, Doom-as-ruler and Reed Richards story. Marvel’s trade paperback collects the nine main issues.
- Choose the 1984 series if you want the original Battleworld crossover, Captain America’s role in the conclusion and Spider-Man’s black-costume origin story. Marvel lists the original series as a 12-issue run published in 1984–1985.
Both are comic background, not required evidence for guessing the film’s plot. The official film and character information available from Disney and Disney+ establishes the ensemble but does not map its members to specific Secret Wars scenes.
What is confirmed—and what is not
Disney’s US film listing gives a December 18, 2026 theatrical release. Disney+’s UK guide gives December 16, 2026 for the UK. These are territory-specific dates. The film remains unreleased as of October 8, 2026. Its announced cast and named characters are confirmed inclusions; exact screen roles and adaptation choices are not established by the official material cited here.
