The character’s earlier appearances and younger Tom Riddle were portrayed by several other actors, while Ian Hart supplied Voldemort’s voice in the first film. In the official full-cast audiobooks, Matthew Macfadyen voices him. Eddie Izzard is named in the original title, but the available evidence does not verify that casting, so it is not included as a confirmed credit here.
Who played Voldemort in the films?
Voldemort’s birth name is Tom Marvolo Riddle, so credits for Tom Riddle refer to the same character at younger ages. The performances differ by incarnation and by what appears on screen: some actors portray a young Riddle, while the first film separates the voice and facial source from the figure seen in a flashback.
| Actor | Role or contribution | Production |
|---|---|---|
| Ian Hart | Voldemort’s voice and the facial source on the back of Professor Quirrell’s head | Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) |
| Richard Bremmer | Voldemort in the Godric’s Hollow flashback; his face is not shown | Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) |
| Christian Coulson | Teenage Tom Riddle | Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) |
| Hero Fiennes Tiffin | Child Tom Riddle | Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) |
| Frank Dillane | Teenage Tom Riddle | Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) |
| Ralph Fiennes | Adult Voldemort | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005); Order of the Phoenix (2007); Half-Blood Prince (2009); Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010); Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011) |
The film-role breakdown is documented in a secondary filmography reference. Wizarding World also describes Fiennes’s portrayal and Voldemort’s return in Goblet of Fire in its feature on the actor and character.
Why are there several actors for Tom Riddle and Voldemort?
The films show the character at different ages and in different forms. Coulson plays the teenage Riddle in Chamber of Secrets; Half-Blood Prince uses Hero Fiennes Tiffin for the child version and Frank Dillane for the teenage version. Fiennes takes over as the adult Voldemort beginning with Goblet of Fire.

The first film has a separate distinction: Hart’s contribution is the voice and facial source associated with Quirrell, while Bremmer appears as Voldemort in the Godric’s Hollow flashback. They are not interchangeable credits for the same visible scene.
Who voiced Voldemort in the audiobooks?
Matthew Macfadyen voices Voldemort in the official full-cast audiobook editions. Wizarding World’s audiobook cast article confirms his role and reported that all seven audio editions were available on Audible when that article was accessed; availability may change.

Did Eddie Izzard play or voice Voldemort?
The available source check does not establish an authoritative credit confirming Izzard as Voldemort in The Lego Batman Movie. Because that claim is not verified here, it should not be presented as a confirmed performance alongside the documented Harry Potter film and audiobook roles.
