Emma Roberts said she believes her famous family ties have cost her more acting jobs than they have brought her. In a Flaunt profile, she said she had never gotten a job because of those connections and knew she had lost “a couple of jobs” because of them. The interview records Roberts’s account; it does not independently verify why any particular casting decision was made.
What Emma Roberts said about her family and jobs
In Flaunt’s Issue 193 profile, “The Gold Standard Issue,” interviewer Beatrice Hazlehurst asked Roberts about the professional benefits of famous family ties. Roberts replied: “I’ve lost more jobs than I’ve gained from being in the business.”
She explained that people can have opinions about members of a person’s family, adding: “People have opinions and sometimes maybe they’re not good opinions of people in your family.” She then said: “I’ve never gotten a job because of it, I know I definitely have lost a couple of jobs because of it.”
What the interview does—and does not—establish
Roberts framed the issue as her own experience and belief. She said she had never received a job because of her family connections and knew she had lost “a couple” because of them. The profile does not name those jobs, employers or decision-makers, and it provides no hiring records that would independently confirm the reasons for any casting outcome.
#1 Best Overall
“A couple of jobs” is Roberts’s description, not an industry statistic. Her broader comparison—more lost than gained—should likewise be read as her account, not as a measured count or independently verified ratio.
Who are the family members she was referring to?
The Flaunt profile identifies actor Eric Roberts as Emma Roberts’s father and actor Julia Roberts as her aunt. The interview discusses family ties generally; it does not attribute a specific job loss to either relative or give details of a particular casting decision.

Why the “nepo baby” framing needs qualification
Roberts’s remarks address the perception and possible professional effects of having famous relatives, a subject often discussed under the label “nepo baby.” Her comments do not establish that she benefited from those connections, nor do they prove that relatives caused any specific rejection. They show what Roberts says she experienced, while leaving the underlying hiring decisions undocumented.
