Supercell described the collaboration as the first time the game had added a character based on a real person. The season and its medal event have ended; the announcement does not establish that the Haaland skin is currently available.
Why was Erling Haaland added to Clash of Clans?
Supercell announced the partnership on April 30, 2024, saying Haaland was already a longtime Clash of Clans player and fan. The company said his enthusiasm for the game helped prompt the collaboration. Haaland became the game’s Barbarian King character, and players could attack his in-game village.
Haaland said in Supercell’s announcement: “I’ve been a huge fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, so to appear as an in-game character is really cool.” Clash of Clans General Manager Stuart McGaw described bringing the footballer into the game as a “dream scenario” for the team.
What did Supercell mean by “first real person”?
Supercell framed Haaland’s appearance as the first character based on a real person to be added to Clash of Clans. That is the publisher’s description of the milestone, rather than an independently audited account of every character in the game’s history. The announcement also described Clash of Clans as having more than two billion downloads; that is Supercell’s figure as reported on April 30, 2024, and the announcement did not explain its counting method or time period.
