The report says the Instagram carousel was posted the day before with the caption “mamdani’s new york!!” It does not identify either garment’s brand or designer.
What happened in the video?
AOL’s Rachel Burchfield report, which identifies InStyle as the original source, says Ratajkowski shared an Instagram carousel on January 8, 2026. One item in the carousel was a video of her dancing in what looked like a New York City bodega. The report attributes the caption “mamdani’s new york!!” to the post. AOL’s report is secondary coverage; the original Instagram post’s continued availability and exact details were not independently verified.
What was Emily Ratajkowski wearing?
The report describes a black bra-like top and a black skirt that was semi-sheer and thong-baring. It names no designer, brand, product, or exact garment model, so the outfit cannot be identified more specifically from that account.
What was the caption’s political context?
The report places the post one week after Zohran Mamdani’s January 1, 2026 inauguration as New York City mayor and frames the caption as support for the new mayor. That is the report’s interpretation of the timing and wording, rather than a separately verified explanation from Ratajkowski.

- Opacity: Check how transparent the skirt is in the product photos and whether it includes a lining.
- Length: Choose a maxi length if that is the silhouette you want; the report does not establish the original skirt’s exact length.
- Waist rise: Look at where the waistband sits and how it fits with the top you plan to wear.
- Fabric and construction: Compare mesh, sheer woven fabric, and other materials rather than assuming the original used a particular fabric.
