In a November 2021 tweet, Elon Musk said, “At least 50% of my tweets were made on a porcelain throne,” then added, “It gives me solace.” The figure was Musk’s own humorous claim—not a verified count of where he wrote his tweets.
What did Musk say?
Musk posted the remark on November 21, 2021. Futurism quoted it in a report published the next day: “At least 50% of my tweets were made on a porcelain throne.” Musk followed with, “It gives me solace.” Futurism’s November 22, 2021 report and t3n’s report from the same day covered the post.
What does “porcelain throne” mean?
“Porcelain throne” is a joking euphemism for a toilet. Musk was making light of the idea that he composed many of his tweets while using one.
Was the 50 percent figure verified?
No independent measurement is established by the contemporaneous reports. The percentage should be understood as Musk’s self-reported, humorous claim, not as an audited statistic about his posting habits.

Did Musk mention it again?
In a conversation with TED head Chris Anderson, recorded live on April 14, 2022, Musk described his tweets as stream-of-consciousness and said, “I’m, like, literally, on the toilet or something.” The comment echoes the earlier joke but does not confirm the 2021 percentage.
