In 2021, Vikalp@Prithvi organized an online tribute screening for filmmaker and motorcycle traveler Gaurav Jani. The program featured Riding Solo to the Top of the World, directed by Jani, and Remembering Gaurav Jani, a documentary tribute featuring his family, friends, and fellow riders. The event was reported by Scroll on September 3, 2021; that report does not establish whether the screening or films can still be watched.
What the tribute screening included
Vikalp@Prithvi, which Scroll describes as hosting weekly documentary screenings followed by discussions, arranged the online tribute to Jani. The reported program paired one of his own films with a documentary about his life and spirit:
- Riding Solo to the Top of the World, Jani’s 2006 film about a solo motorcycle journey to Ladakh’s Changthang Plateau.
- Remembering Gaurav Jani, which includes tributes from Jani’s family, friends, and members of the 60kph Motorcycle Travel Club India.
Scroll’s September 2021 report points readers to Vikalp@Prithvi’s Facebook page, but does not give a screening date beyond the report’s publication or confirm that a recording remains available. The report is a record of a past event, not a current event listing.
Who Gaurav Jani was
Jani was an Indian filmmaker and motorcycle traveler whose documentaries followed journeys through remote parts of the country. Scroll reported that he died on May 24, 2020, aged 47, from multiple organ failure. He directed Riding Solo to the Top of the World and One Crazy Ride, and founded the 60kph Motorcycle Travel Club India.

A founder biography on Ride of My Life says Jani traveled solo across India from 2004 to 2010. It also describes Motorcycle Chang pa, about a year-long journey to Changthang, as his third film and unfinished when the biography was written.
Two journeys in Jani’s films
Jani’s films share an interest in motorcycle travel, but their scale and method differ: one follows a solitary ride and self-filming in Ladakh; the other follows a group expedition in Arunachal Pradesh.

| Film | Journey | Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Riding Solo to the Top of the World (2006) | Jani rode from Mumbai to the Changthang Plateau in Ladakh on a Royal Enfield Bullet 350. | He filmed the journey himself. KHOJ Studios’ archived listing describes him as a one-man film unit capturing the landscapes and people he encountered. |
| One Crazy Ride (2009) | Jani and four other bikers traveled from Guwahati into Arunachal Pradesh. | The expedition traversed uncharted roads, with friendship and the riders’ effort to chart a route at its center. |
KHOJ Studios’ archive records a 2008 screening of Riding Solo to the Top of the World and corroborates its journey and filmmaking approach: film archive entry. A Vimeo-hosted listing for One Crazy Ride gives its runtime as 87 minutes and describes a dual-layer DVD in NTSC, all-regions format, with English and Hindi audio and English, French, Italian, German, and Dutch subtitles. These are listing details, not confirmation of present availability: Vimeo-hosted listing.
How friends and colleagues remembered him
In the tribute film, editor and filmmaker Sankalp Meshram is quoted by Scroll saying, “I doubt there is any one single documentary that has been so widely accepted, so widely rewarded,”. Jani’s brother Uday describes him as “daring, he was bold, he didn’t care what others thought, he did what he wanted to do”. These are quotations as transcribed in Scroll’s account of the film.
