No verified direct quote shows Elon Musk saying he “longs to get pregnant.” The headline came from his “1000%” reply to a user’s joke about him being on his 17th pregnancy if men could give birth. A January 2025 fact-check said the reply’s meaning was unclear, so it does not establish that Musk literally wanted to become pregnant.
What Musk actually replied
According to Snopes’ fact-check, republished by Yahoo News on January 30, 2025, the exchange took place on X on January 7. A user joked, “Can we all agree that if men giving birth was possible,” and that Musk would be on his “17th pregnancy.” Musk replied, “1000%.” The joke was itself a response to a Musk post that included a pregnant-man emoji.
The “17th pregnancy” was part of the user’s hypothetical, not a count of pregnancies. The reported exchange does not establish whether Musk’s brief reply was serious, sarcastic, or simply playing along.
Where the “longs to get pregnant” claim came from
Futurism’s January 10, 2025 article used the headline “Elon Musk Says He Longs to Get Pregnant So He Can Produce as Many Children as Possible.” That phrasing interpreted the X exchange; it was not a direct quotation shown in the exchange.

Snopes reported finding no public statement in which Musk explicitly said he “longed” to be pregnant, and described the claim as misattributed. The fact-check said it sought clarification from Musk, but the reviewed reporting does not establish that he later responded.
How his separate comments about birth rates fit
There is a separate, documented remark that may help explain why the headline seemed plausible to some readers, but it does not verify the pregnancy claim. At a 2021 Wall Street Journal event, Musk said, “If people don’t have more children, civilization is going to crumble,” as quoted in the Snopes fact-check. A statement favoring higher birth rates is not evidence that he said he wanted to become pregnant.

What the evidence supports
- Verified in the reporting: Musk replied “1000%” to a user’s joke about a hypothetical 17th pregnancy.
- Not verified as a direct quote: Musk saying he “longs to get pregnant.” That wording appeared in Futurism’s headline, not as a quotation from him.
- Unresolved: What Musk intended by the short reply. The fact-check said the exchange did not make his tone or intent clear.
The exchange’s hypothetical about men giving birth is context for the joke, not evidence about Musk’s private intentions. It should also not be confused with pregnancy among trans men: the cited coverage addresses attribution and the wording of the X exchange, not a broader medical question.
