Who are Ember and Wade?
Ember Lumen
Pixar describes Ember as an only child of immigrant parents who is keenly aware of their sacrifices. She is dedicated to repaying them by being a perfect daughter. Her parents, Bernie and Cinder Lumen, left Fire Land to give her a better life. Bernie runs a neighborhood shop, while Cinder is a traditional, self-appointed matchmaker. (Pixar)
Wade Ripple
Pixar describes Wade as emotionally transparent, observant, empathetic and compassionate. His water-element nature and outlook contrast with Ember’s, making their relationship a way into the film’s broader story about living alongside people with different backgrounds and perspectives. (Pixar)

What is Element City like?
Element City is home to fire, water, land and air residents, with districts shaped around their different elements. Firetown was the city’s last district to be established, and its canal system is called the Wetro. Pixar production designer Don Shank said the design team studied large cities, particularly canal cities such as Venice and Amsterdam; the story is not intended as a portrait of New York. (Pixar)
The visual contrast between districts also helps convey Ember’s experience. Pixar color and shading art director Jennifer Chang described the Water District as cooler, slicker, more reflective and translucent than Firetown’s warm, dry reds, oranges and yellows, and said that being in the water world feels uncomfortable to Ember. Disney lists the U.S. release date as June 16, 2023. Peter Sohn directed the film, Denise Ream produced it, and the listed cast includes Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie.
