Edge returned to in-ring competition at the 2020 Royal Rumble, entering the Men’s match at No. 21—his first match since retiring in 2011, according to WWE’s event recap. The return was the comeback; Edge’s Royal Rumble victory came the following year, in 2021.
What happened when Edge returned at the 2020 Royal Rumble?
Edge made a surprise entrance in the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble. WWE’s official video description says: “Edge shocks the WWE Universe with a surprise entrance in the Men’s Royal Rumble and immediately goes on the attack.” His entry at No. 21 marked his return to competition after the retirement WWE dates to 2011.

WWE’s recap called Edge’s comeback “No moment in the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble Match was more shocking than the return of Edge.” That is WWE’s promotional characterization of the moment, not an independently measured ranking.
How did the return fit into Edge’s Royal Rumble story?
The three appearances often linked in accounts of Edge’s Royal Rumble history had different outcomes: 2020 was his return, 2021 brought a victory, and 2023 placed him back in the match amid his feud with The Judgment Day.

Why the 2020 and 2021 moments are easy to confuse
Both appearances were major chapters in Edge’s return to the Royal Rumble, but they were not the same milestone. In 2020, he re-entered competition after retirement; in 2021, he won the match. The 2023 appearance added another chapter, this time tied to his conflict with The Judgment Day.
