Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Guy Beahm, said in June 2024 that he exchanged Twitch Whispers with a minor in 2017 and that some conversations leaned toward being inappropriate. Twitch had banned him in 2020; the renewed attention in 2024 was followed by the end of his relationship with Midnight Society and a YouTube monetization suspension. YouTube restored monetization in January 2025, the same day Midnight Society announced it was closing.
What did Dr Disrespect admit?
In a June 25, 2024 post, Beahm acknowledged that he exchanged Twitch Whispers with a minor in 2017. He wrote: “Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes.” He characterized them as “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate.” Those are Beahm’s descriptions; the message record has not been made public in the reporting cited here. The Washington Post reported his statement and its wording.
Beahm said he accepted moral responsibility for engaging in the conversations: “Now from a moral standpoint, I’ll absolutely take responsibility.” He also denied that anything illegal happened and disputed more serious allegations. His admission and characterization should not be treated as an independent finding about the messages’ content or as proof of criminal conduct.
What did former Twitch employees allege, and what did Beahm deny?
In June 2024, allegations from former Twitch employees brought renewed attention to the reason for Beahm’s 2020 ban. Their accounts included claims about the messages and their circumstances. Beahm denied criminal conduct and disputed the more serious claims. The reporting cited here does not include the message record or an independent adjudication of what it contained, so allegations should remain attributed to the people who made them rather than stated as established facts.
