The decision followed media reports of allegations against Gaiman, which he denied. Seven of the comic’s planned eight issues had been published.
What Dark Horse announced
On January 27, 2025, Dark Horse said: “Dark Horse takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works.” The publisher also confirmed that it was canceling the Anansi Boys comic series and its collected volume. The Guardian reported the announcement; Publishers Weekly also reported it.
What happened to the Anansi Boys comic
The series adapted Gaiman’s 2005 novel. Dark Horse began publishing the comic in June 2024, according to The Guardian. It was planned for eight issues; issue seven appeared on January 15, 2025, and the series was canceled before the final issue. The collected edition was canceled as well. The announcement does not establish what happened to rights or the availability of previously published issues and editions.
What allegations were reported, and how did Gaiman respond?
The Associated Press reported in January 2025 that allegations against Gaiman had first emerged in a Tortoise Media podcast and that a New York Magazine article described allegations from eight women. Those are media-reported allegations, not findings established by the cited reporting. The AP’s report describes the allegations and Gaiman’s response.

Gaiman denied wrongdoing. In a blog post quoted by the AP, he wrote: “At the same time, as I reflect on my past – and as I re-review everything that actually happened as opposed to what is being alleged – I don’t accept there was any abuse.” The Guardian also quoted his January 14 statement: “Some of the horrible stories now being told simply never happened, while others have been so distorted from what actually took place that they bear no relationship to reality.” Both statements represent Gaiman’s response, not independent determinations about the allegations.
What other publishers said at the time
Dark Horse’s announcement should not be treated as proof that every publisher ended its relationship with Gaiman. In January 2025, Publishers Weekly reported that HarperCollins had no new Gaiman books scheduled and that W.W. Norton said it would have no projects with him going forward. The report said the status of other publishers and agents was unclear at the time. Those statements describe positions reported in January 2025, not a verified account of every publisher’s current plans.

What later lawsuit reporting does—and does not—show
A later Associated Press report said U.S. lawsuits brought by Scarlett Pavlovich were dismissed on jurisdictional grounds, with judges directing the claims toward New Zealand. A jurisdictional dismissal is procedural; it is not a decision resolving the underlying allegations on their merits. Because court proceedings can change, the current status should be checked against the relevant court record before being described.
