Chaves—the Brazilian title for El Chavo del Ocho—was announced as returning to Brazilian television in a 2024 deal between SBT and Televisa. A new SBT–Globo negotiation has not been confirmed by the sources available. The two claims refer to different events and should not be conflated.
What SBT actually announced
On 24 September 2024, SBT announced an agreement with Televisa for Brazilian free-to-air television exhibition rights to Chaves and Chapolin. SBT also said some episodes would be available on its +SBT platform. SBT’s announcement identifies Televisa—not Globo—as the counterparty.

SBT News reported the same return and described +SBT as free. Those reports establish what SBT announced in 2024; they do not by themselves verify the current broadcast schedule or the platform’s present catalog.
Are SBT and Globo negotiating?
The available evidence does not confirm a new SBT–Globo negotiation in 2026, nor does it establish terms for any such talks. The confirmed agreement in SBT’s 2024 announcement was with Televisa. It would therefore be inaccurate to present current negotiations between SBT and Globo as established fact.

Why Globo is part of the story
Globo has historical context: a 2018 report by Exame said Multishow, a channel belonging to Grupo Globo, had acquired Brazilian rights to El Chavo. That earlier licensing event is separate from SBT’s 2024 Televisa agreement and does not prove that Globo is now negotiating with SBT.

Chaves had aired on SBT from 1984 to 2020, a 36-year run, according to SBT News. Its return announcement followed a period in which the series was unavailable in Brazil. The 2024 agreement marked a return to SBT’s free-to-air offering, with some episodes also intended for +SBT.
