A statement attributed to the Cuban Institute of Music described the cause as an “acute cardiovascular event.”
Who was El Dany?
Muñoz was one half of Yomil y El Dany, alongside Roberto Hidalgo Puente, known as Yomil. Contemporary accounts describe the duo’s sound as a blend of reggaeton and rap, also associated with “traptón.”

According to a 2020 profile in Vanguardia, Muñoz and Hidalgo formed an earlier project, DpuntoD, in 2009. Yomil y El Dany emerged in 2015. The profile gives Muñoz’s birth date as January 6, 1989, consistent with the age of 31 reported at his death.
What Cuban health authorities reported
A July 19, 2020 report by CubaInformación reproduces a statement attributed to Havana’s Provincial Health Directorate. It said Muñoz was admitted to Calixto García Clinical Surgical Hospital on July 12 with peripheral neurological manifestations and died there at 09:05 on July 18. The statement described his death as resulting from an “acute cardiovascular event.”

The same report said Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health had appointed a specialist commission to examine the causes. The reproduced notice said results would be made public if the family considered that appropriate. The contemporaneous report does not establish a final public finding, so the stated cause should not be expanded into a more specific diagnosis.
