The magazine’s August 28 announcement said its October issue would include a photo shoot with Yáñez and 14 other men. That editorial designation was separate from an online reader vote the magazine announced; the announcement does not say Yáñez won that vote.
What “The Sexiest Man of 2008” meant
People en Español Staff published the announcement on August 28, 2008, describing Yáñez as heading the magazine’s upcoming list of “the sexiest Latino men in entertainment.” It was a magazine feature, not a documented award or a measured popularity result.
The announcement described Yáñez as a 47-year-old Mexican actor. It said the October issue would feature a photo shoot with him and 14 other men. Among those named as sharing the spotlight were Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi, Christian Meier, Antonio Banderas, David Bisbal, and Chayanne.
How the separate reader vote worked
The same announcement invited readers to submit candidates for an online “Sexiest Man” vote beginning August 29. The magazine said it would choose 25 finalists, then let readers vote for a winner whose photo would appear in the following issue. The announcement does not establish the eventual winner, so Yáñez’s place at the head of the feature should not be mistaken for a confirmed vote victory.

What Yáñez said about the appeal of his roles
In the interview described by the announcement, Yáñez said: “The characters I play are a woman’s dream, their princes in shining armor. That’s what makes it sexy,” The remark refers to the characters he played; it is not a statement about his private life or independent evidence of public opinion.
The announcement said the interview also discussed his career, his son Eduardo Yáñez Jr., and actress Angélica Rivera, whom it described as someone he had allegedly dated.
