There is no reliable evidence establishing a ranked list of Dwayne Johnson’s five closest friends—or five celebrities he currently avoids. Reporting does support several meaningful personal and professional relationships, along with a few dated public disputes. The distinction matters: friendship, collaboration and a past feud are not proof of private closeness or ongoing avoidance.
People Johnson has described or been reported as close to
These are sourced examples, not a ranking. The evidence ranges from family ties and first-person descriptions to colleagues’ encouragement; it does not establish who belongs in a definitive top five.
Tanoai Reed: cousin and longtime stunt double
Reed is Johnson’s cousin and longtime stunt double. In a 2021 interview with Netflix Tudum, Reed described the relationship in personal terms: “He’s like a brother to me.” He also said, “There’s a lot of love between us, a lot of respect.” Tudum called Reed Johnson’s stunt double of 20 years at the time; that figure describes their work history, not a measurement of personal closeness.
Brendan Fraser: a bond rooted in a first film role
Johnson and Fraser first worked together on The Mummy Returns. In a 2025 Variety conversation, Johnson thanked Fraser for taking a chance on him in his first film role. “It meant something to me, because you took a risk on me, and years later, you and I are sitting here. I want to thank you for really changing my life,” Johnson told Fraser. Fraser recalled supporting him. Their exchange supports a lasting sense of gratitude and warmth, but does not establish a ranked best-friend relationship.

Ryan Reynolds: a friendship described as 20 years old in 2021
In a 2021 Access Hollywood segment, Johnson described Reynolds as a friend of 20 years. The two co-starred with Gal Gadot in Red Notice. The reported duration belongs to Johnson’s description in 2021; it should not be treated as proof of the relationship’s present-day status or private depth.
Dany Garcia: former spouse, continuing friend and business partner
Johnson and Garcia were married and later divorced. A 2026 Esquire report says they remain friends; Garcia has also produced many of Johnson’s films. Their relationship therefore spans personal and professional life, but the report does not rank her among his closest friends.

Emily Blunt: encouragement around a demanding role
An Associated Press story in 2025 characterized Blunt as a friend who encouraged Johnson as he took on The Smashing Machine. The report supports a picture of personal encouragement in a work context. It does not establish a private best-friend status or a ranked place among Johnson’s closest relationships. Read the AP report.
What the record says about reported conflicts
The available reporting documents particular disagreements at particular times. It does not substantiate five celebrities Johnson currently avoids. A public dispute, a period without speaking and a later meeting are not interchangeable with an ongoing decision to avoid someone.

Tyrese Gibson: a dispute discussed in 2018
In 2018, Johnson said he and Fast & Furious co-star Tyrese Gibson had not spoken after a dispute and that he saw no need for a conversation at that point. Entertainment Tonight quoted Johnson describing the situation as “pretty disappointing,” adding that he had been friends with Gibson for a very long time. That account establishes a strained relationship at the time of the report, not a current estrangement or continuing avoidance. Entertainment Tonight’s 2018 report.
Vin Diesel and the Fast & Furious cast: public criticism, then a meeting
In 2021, Johnson reflected on public Instagram remarks criticizing some of his Fast & Furious co-stars. “I meant what I said. For sure,” he told ABC News. He also discussed a later meeting with Diesel. This documents a public conflict and a subsequent interaction; it does not show that Johnson currently avoids Diesel. ABC News’s 2021 report.

Why a definitive five-and-five list would overstate the evidence
- There is no substantiated ranking. The sources provide examples of relationships, not a top-five list determined by Johnson or by a documented measure.
- Different kinds of ties are involved. Reed is family as well as a longtime colleague; Garcia is a former spouse, friend and producer; the other examples include friendship, gratitude and encouragement.
- Conflict reports are time-specific. The Gibson comments date to 2018, while Johnson’s reflections on the Fast & Furious dispute date to 2021. Neither establishes whom he avoids now.
- Professional connection is not proof of private intimacy. The Guardian’s 2025 career coverage notes Johnson’s longstanding acquaintance with Mark Kerr and his work with Benny Safdie, but those facts alone do not establish either as a closest friend. The Guardian’s report.
Accordingly, the most accurate answer is a set of well-sourced examples of closeness and dated disputes—not ten definitive names. The evidence supports saying that Johnson has had meaningful relationships with the people above and public disagreements with Gibson and members of the Fast & Furious circle. It does not support claiming that he currently avoids five celebrities.
