Drew Gulak disappeared from NXT programming in April 2024 after Ronda Rousey publicly alleged that he grabbed the drawstring of her sweatpants backstage at a WWE event in 2022. Gulak said the contact was accidental and that he had apologized. NXT then used an on-screen storyline to explain his absence, and POST Wrestling later reported that he was among talent released from NXT. The available reporting does not establish that WWE confirmed an investigation’s findings or that the allegation caused either the storyline or his reported release.
What Ronda Rousey alleged—and how Drew Gulak responded
While discussing the incident in an interview promoting her memoir, Rousey said Gulak grabbed the string of her sweatpants as she walked by backstage. In a report reproducing her account, she said: “This guy [Gulak] that was like barely an acquaintance with, grabs the string of, like, my sweat pants as I’m walking by.” NoDQ’s report covered the allegation and the surrounding NXT developments.
On April 3, Gulak posted that he had stopped to greet Rousey and others and, while trying to shake her hand, accidentally touched her drawstring. He called it a “Complete accident” and said he had apologized for the mishap. Cageside Seats reproduced his statement. These are Rousey’s allegation and Gulak’s account; the cited reporting does not independently resolve what happened.
When Gulak disappeared from NXT
Gulak had appeared on WWE’s January 2, 2024 New Year’s Evil results as part of No Quarter Catch Crew, competing alongside Damon Kemp and Myles Borne against LWO. After the allegation became public, his presence on the show changed.

- April 9: Cageside Seats reported that Gulak was absent from NXT and no longer appeared in the No Quarter Catch Crew entrance graphic. At that point, WWE had not issued an official statement on the allegation or his status, according to the report.
- April 16: NXT used a storyline implying that the Tony D’Angelo Family had “taken care” of Gulak. That was a fictional explanation within the show, not a finding about the real-world allegation. WWE’s official results for the episode do not mention Gulak.
That sequence is what “written off” means here: the show stopped featuring Gulak and used an on-screen angle to account for his absence. It does not, by itself, establish why WWE changed his television role.
Was Drew Gulak released by WWE?
On May 3, 2024, POST Wrestling reported that Gulak was among talent released from NXT. The report establishes that the outlet reported a release; it does not establish that Rousey’s allegation caused it. The sources cited here contain no WWE explanation linking the reported release to the allegation or explaining the April storyline.

What the public record does—and does not—show
The public timeline connects the allegation becoming known with Gulak’s absence from NXT, a change to his group graphic, and a storyline write-off. It also includes Gulak’s denial of intentional contact and his statement that he apologized. Those facts should be kept distinct: the television angle is not evidence that the allegation was proven, and the later release report does not establish a reason for his departure. The cited material does not provide a publicly confirmed WWE investigation outcome.
