Nickelodeon’s reported statement expressed sadness and support for Bell, and cited safeguards and child well-being as priorities.
What Drake Bell said about Nickelodeon’s response
In a March 22, 2024 appearance on The Sarah Fraser Show, Bell criticized the network’s response after his account appeared in Investigation Discovery’s four-part docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. TheWrap reported that this was his first reported interview after the series’ release.
As quoted by TheWrap, Bell said: “I find it pretty empty, their responses, because, I mean, they still show our shows, they still put our shows on.” He added: “And I have to pay for my own therapy.” These are Bell’s stated reasons for his assessment, not independent findings about Nickelodeon’s conduct or motives. TheWrap’s March 23, 2024 report reproduced the remarks; the quoted excerpt is not presented as an independently verified podcast transcript.
What Nickelodeon’s statement said
Nickelodeon’s reported statement said it was “dismayed and saddened” to learn of Bell’s trauma and commended and supported his decision to come forward. It described the well-being of employees, casts, crew and children as priorities and referred to safeguards.

That statement and Bell’s criticism address different things: the network expressed support and pointed to priorities and safeguards, while Bell judged the response against the continued airing of shows and his own therapy costs. The available accounts do not establish what Nickelodeon knew, what its motives were, or whether its safeguards were effective.
The documentary context
Quiet on Set included Bell’s account of abuse by dialogue coach Brian Peck. Bell also said that after engaging with the documentary process, he checked himself into rehab and received group and individual trauma therapy. These are accounts attributed to Bell and the documentary’s reporting, rather than conclusions independently established here. TheWrap’s coverage of Bell’s interview reported his criticism of Nickelodeon’s response.
