Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch in June 2020. On June 25, 2024, Guy Beahm, who performs as Dr Disrespect, said the ban followed Twitch Whisper messages he exchanged with a minor in 2017. He described the conversations as sometimes inappropriate and accepted moral responsibility for engaging in them, while denying criminal conduct. Former Twitch employees alleged more explicit messages and an attempted TwitchCon meetup; Beahm later disputed those details. Twitch has not publicly provided a case-specific account in the cited reporting.
What Dr Disrespect said about the ban
In a public statement on June 25, 2024, Beahm acknowledged exchanging Twitch Whisper messages with an individual minor in 2017. He wrote: “These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more.” He also said, “I should have never entertained these conversations to begin with,” and accepted moral responsibility.
Beahm said those messages were why Twitch banned him in 2020. He denied criminal conduct. These are Beahm’s descriptions of the messages and the reason for the ban, not a detailed public explanation from Twitch. The messages themselves have not been reproduced in the cited reporting.
What former Twitch employees alleged
In June 2024, former Twitch employee Cody Conners alleged that the ban followed sexually explicit messages with a minor through Twitch Whispers and an attempt to arrange a meeting at TwitchCon. Game Informer reported that Conners did not initially name Beahm, though the context made clear whom he meant. These claims go beyond Beahm’s initial account and should be understood as allegations, not independently established facts.

What Twitch said publicly—and what the settlement means
Twitch’s reported statement at the time of the 2020 ban said it takes appropriate action when it has evidence that a streamer violated its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, regardless of the streamer’s status. It did not explain Beahm’s case. The Washington Post reported that Twitch did not respond to its request for comment in June 2024, so the platform’s public record does not independently confirm the details Beahm later described.
