He described the experience in a March 2024 interview with James Corden on SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine. The strokes occurred during his hospitalization; the public reports do not establish their precise sequence relative to the aneurysm.
What Dr. Dre said happened
In the interview, Dre recalled waking with pain behind his right ear. He initially went about his day, then a friend of his son took him to urgent care. He said he blacked out and was in and out of consciousness before reaching the intensive care unit.

Dre said he spent two weeks in the ICU and had three strokes during that stay. CBS News quoted him saying, “during those two weeks, I had three strokes.” The account is Dre’s retrospective description, as reported from the interview—not a conclusion independently verified by the news outlets through medical records.
When the hospitalization and interview took place
- January 2021: Dre was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for a brain aneurysm. ABC News reported that his attorney confirmed the aneurysm at the time; CBS News cited a contemporaneous social media update from the hospital.
- March 14, 2024: Dre discussed the hospitalization with James Corden on SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine. CBS News and the Los Angeles Times identified that as the episode date; both published their reports on March 18, 2024.
What is known—and what has not been disclosed
Dre said he had not known he had high blood pressure. He also recalled that doctors could not tell him what he could have done to prevent the aneurysm. ABC News reported that, according to Dre, doctors thought it was most likely hereditary; that remains his account of what he was told, not an independently established finding in the cited reporting.

ABC News also reported Dre saying he had no warning signs before the day he went to the hospital. His account included severe pain behind his right ear that morning, so this means he described no advance warning—not no symptoms on the day of admission.
The reports do not specify whether the strokes were ischemic or hemorrhagic, detail their treatment, or establish whether Dre had lasting effects. The Los Angeles Times noted that he did not elaborate on the stroke types or their effects. The available coverage therefore supports the broad timeline and his reported experience, but not a more specific medical account.
