Yes—the cast sings the voices heard in Pitch Perfect. But that does not mean every song was recorded live on camera, in one take. The 2012 film’s vocals were rehearsed, recorded, rerecorded and layered in the studio, with some live singing during filming. Anna Kendrick’s “No Diggity” rap in the Riff-Off is one documented live-on-set example.
Whose voices are on the soundtrack?
The first film’s production team intended the on-screen characters’ vocals to be performed by the actors playing them. Vocal producer Harvey Mason Jr. told Post Magazine: “It was important to all of us that when the characters were on-screen that it was actually their voices that were on tape.” Universal’s official film page identifies Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Adam Devine, Anna Camp and Brittany Snow among the stars of the 2012 comedy.

How were the songs recorded?
The finished performances were carefully produced rather than captured as simple, uninterrupted live takes. Production reporting describes music directors Ed Boyer and Deke Sharon creating vocal guide tracks, which the cast used in rehearsal. Recordings of those rehearsals served as demos; the arrangements were then developed, and lead vocals were rerecorded with Mason working with the actors on their performances.
The final mix combined multiple vocal elements. Re-recording mixer Kevin O’Connell told Post Magazine that songs delivered for the mix could involve as many as 120 tracks of singing and vocalizations. That was a production-specific maximum, not a track count for every song. The layers could include leads, secondary characters, background voices, beatboxing and voices imitating instruments such as guitar, bass and drums.

What was sung live during filming?
The Riff-Off shows how live and prerecorded elements could work together. Director Jason Moore said the crew prepared prerecorded material as a guide, while the actors still sang live on set to make transitions from dialogue into song feel organic. He specifically said Kendrick performed Beca’s “No Diggity” rap live; some background vocals had been prerecorded. Moore discussed the scene in The Daily Beast’s oral history of the Riff-Off.

The details above concern the first film. For Pitch Perfect 2, vocal producer Deke Sharon described the cast recording studio vocal tracks and lip-syncing to prerecorded tracks on set. That is evidence about the sequel’s production, not proof that every scene—or every installment—used an identical method.
