No—Luffy ate one Devil Fruit. It was first known as the Gomu Gomu no Mi; the story later reveals its true name as the Hito Hito no Mi, Mythical Zoan, Model: Nika. Those are two names for the same fruit, not evidence that Luffy ate a second one.
Why does Luffy’s fruit have two names?
The confusion comes from a story reveal about the fruit’s identity. The official description for ONE PIECE volume 104 says that the fruit Luffy ate as the Gomu Gomu no Mi was actually the Hito Hito no Mi, Mythical Zoan, Model Nika. It presents the latter as the fruit’s real name—not as another fruit Luffy ate later.
The official Luffy character profile likewise lists both names in his Devil Fruit information. The change is a concealed-identity reveal within the story: Luffy’s fruit was known by one name before its true identity was disclosed.
Is Gear 5 a second Devil Fruit?
No. Gear 5 is the name Luffy gives to the awakened power of his fruit, according to the volume 104 description. It is a transformation associated with that same fruit, not a separate Devil Fruit. The official anime page for episode 1072 shows Gear 5 in action against Kaido.
