Dragon Ball Super has an officially announced sequel: Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol was set for production on January 25, 2026. But there is no premiere date in the announcement. The Dragon Ball anime project with a confirmed 2026 date is Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a separate enhanced edition of the original series—not the sequel.
Is Dragon Ball Super season 2 happening?
Yes, in the sense that a sequel project is officially in production. The DRAGON BALL OFFICIAL SITE announced on January 25, 2026 that Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol was “officially set for production.” It described the story as following the anime’s Universe Survival Arc and adapting the manga’s Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.
That makes “Dragon Ball Super 2” a reasonable shorthand for the next story in the anime, but it is not the project’s announced title. The official name is Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol.
When is The Galactic Patrol coming out?
No premiere date is given in the official production announcement. It also does not state an episode count, an international release plan, or a detailed production schedule. “Set for production” confirms the project’s status; it does not establish that it is arriving soon or identify a season.

What is the anime’s “big problem”?
The problem is a timing mismatch: the sequel is real, but the dated anime return is a different project. That distinction matters if you are looking for a release date for the next story after the Universe Survival Arc. The announcement confirms that story is in production, but offers no premiere date; the date currently attached to a Dragon Ball Super anime project belongs to Beerus.
What is Dragon Ball Super: Beerus?
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is an enhanced edition of the original Dragon Ball Super anime. Toei Animation describes it as a newly enhanced edition, with new and redrawn cuts and a reconstructed story. It is not the Galactic Patrol sequel and should not be mistaken for a new season continuing the anime’s story.

How the two projects differ
| Project | What it is | Story position | Release information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol | New sequel anime set for production | Follows the Universe Survival Arc and adapts the manga’s Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, featuring Moro | No premiere date stated in the official announcement |
| Dragon Ball Super: Beerus | Enhanced edition of the original anime | Reconstructs and revises earlier Dragon Ball Super material | Japan broadcast scheduled for October 11, 2026 |
The official sequel announcement identifies the Galactic Patrol story and its manga connection. Toei’s announcement of the enhanced edition describes the separate Beerus project.

The Galactic Patrol is not a restart at the beginning of Dragon Ball Super. Its announced story follows the anime’s Universe Survival Arc and draws on the manga’s Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. In that story, Goku and Vegeta face Moro alongside the Galactic Patrol. Readers who want to encounter the source story can look for the Dragon Ball Super manga; the official announcement does not specify an English volume number.
